In the final, everytime Messi touches the ball he will score a goal from it. EVERY TIME! Because that's how good he is.

Messi took the Bilbao defenders by surprise at a perfect moment and he combined that with accurate finishing. It happens that good and solid defenders get beaten by a magnificent player like Messi. It happened that Del Piero and even a slow aging Batistuta beat great defenders at once and scored.

The Bilbao players did prevent nemurous goals by defending very well, it just happened (naturally) that they got beaten at one moment of brilliance. I can assure you that Messi can beat Chiellini and the greatest Italian defenders of all time like that. Actually, not Messi, even Di Natale. Difference is, Messi scores more great goals because his composure in front of goal is second to none.
No he can't beat 5 Italian players like that.

He can make a fool out of CHiellini, Bonucci, etc. in isolation. Certainly. But he won't make a fool out of 5 Italian players like that and score... Because eventually one of them would have taken the yellow. Simple as that. We don't allow that kind of stuff to continue. Italian defenders are more cynical with stopping that stuff. It was the same thing with Chiello sliding through Ronaldo late in that second game. He never let Ronaldo build up a head of steam and start that last counter.

Aside from this, as Seven says, Italian defences, well, most of the decent to good Italian defences are better organized and don't allow that kind of space to run into.

Messi, if he gets a 1v1 with a defender of ours in a good position, might make a fool of a defender and score, but in Italy, especially against a cup final worthy team, there is absolutely no way he scores that kind of goal by beating 5 players who literally look like clueless morons without any idea of how to defend.

People underestimating Messi :sergio:

The guy is a phenomenon, completely unstoppable. Even Nesta in his prime would struggle against him.

We can't stop Messi, if we let him get on the ball he will kill us. There's no point in trying to mark him closely, as he could dribble his way out of a phonebox.

What we have to do is to try and stop him getting it in the first place. Barça's midfield is good, but IMO it's not quite as good as it was between 09-12.

Iniesta is still a fantastic player, but not quite in the beast mode he was then. Rakitic is a very good player, but he's not Xavi. Busquets is good at what he does, but he's not going to create something from nothing.

If we can stop them (and Dani Alves) from getting the ball to Messi, then we have a chance. If Messi gets on the ball consistently, he'll punish us.
This comment... :sergio:

did you guys have any news about marchisio? yesterday he stopped the training early because of some pain, and since there's no news about his conditions today, it should have been some minor issue i guess.

They are different, but Messi has more to his game. Ronaldo can score in many different ways, but he can't dribble in tight spaces, and score the kind of goal Messi scored against Bilbao. He's also not as much of a playmaker as Messi is. Messi is as good a goalscorer as Ronaldo, plus he's a playmaker; that in my mind makes him more complete than Ronaldo.

Also most players seem to think Messi is the better footballer too. Just today Pogba said this: :p

Playing with Messi would be a dream come true. He's the best player in the world."

Chiellini: "But Messi is now the god of football. It’s difficult to compare him with Diego Maradona, Pele and company, but he’s probably the best player of the last 30 years."

Even if Messi's better the difference is so small it's hardly there. Surely if we manage to somewhat contain Ronaldo, we should be able to somewhat contain Messi. Especially because I think we're better adapted to cope with Messi.

What are you talking about? We will walk to the locker room and forfeit if they win the coin toss, it is when Messi gets to touch the ball first and he will punish us. Do you understand what I mean by punish us? He will PUNISH us.

    @Badass Vidal

Go ahead and ruin the U2 concert joke.
He can start by the Sissoko suspended joke, that one is already worn out.

Had a dream about this game, except that half way through it turned into a tennis game

Didn't get to see the end as I was so confused by the change of sport that I woke up :D

Those journalists will have been asking about Messi constantly especially because of his status as best in the world or even greatest of all time. That plus people talking about him having his first great game against Juve in 2005. I doubt our players are the ones bringing him up in interviews.

Dreamt barzagli got injured then Marrone was coming in as a CB sub. I refused to go back to sleep after that as I felt I deserved to be tired for having that dream.

You know who doesn't play football? You know who is a diving, weak ass, weak willed and poor excuse of a football player? Busquets. Seriously. $#@! Busquets. I don't want to hear that name here again. He does not exist.
    I will respect that.
