Chiellini was so right in his interview today, when he said Messi wouldn't score that Copa goal in Italy.

Someone would have willingly taken the yellow with a slide tackle to stop that play. There were literally 3 different moments where I was certain a Bilbao player would slide in and accept the yellow to stop him, especially the last man, just a few yards before Messi entered the box.

Cringeworthy defending. Ridiculous.

I can't see our defenders and mids ever letting Messi run like that with the ball. Absolutely no way.
Right before he entered the box a Bilbao player tried to bring him down, but he was too late.

Rather than bringing him down, Italian teams tend to put a block in front of him. If you look at Bilbao there are spaces between the defenders he can run into.

parma was already beating. Wasn't this messi goal the 1-0
Yes. But that's not the point. also, Messi's goal was in a final. You can find a lot of differences between Messi's and Tevez goal.

Point is, Chiellini has no right calling Italian defenders better than Spaniards to the point where Messi has no chance scoring such goals in Italy. That sounded ridicolous.

Not really TBH. When the whole squad praises Messi and label him as an alien or god then they're indeed giving him the advantage.

I don't really understand, Ronaldo who is more complete player IMO wasn't praised and talked much about as much as we are doing now with Messi.
Ronaldo can't driblle the way Messi does.. in a way Ronaldo can be predictable and if he gets locked 2-3 times he mentally loses it.. with Messi, the moment he dribble you feel it can't be stopped.
I will take on Chellini's challenge though that Messi can't score in Italy the way he did in the last game against Bilbao.. Its expected also to be asked about Messi .. who else would you ask about :) lately he's been providing bread and butter for S and N :)

Defensive ethic is vastly different in Italy than it is in Spain. I understand what Chiello was trying to say. Beautiful goals do happen in Italy, but you can never say that they happened because 5 players simultaneously decided to forget how to defend.

Messi took the Bilbao defenders by surprise at a perfect moment and he combined that with accurate finishing. It happens that good and solid defenders get beaten by a magnificent player like Messi. It happened that Del Piero and even a slow aging Batistuta beat great defenders at once and scored.

The Bilbao players did prevent nemurous goals by defending very well, it just happened (naturally) that they got beaten at one moment of brilliance. I can assure you that Messi can beat Chiellini and the greatest Italian defenders of all time like that. Actually, not Messi, even Di Natale. Difference is, Messi scores more great goals because his composure in front of goal is second to none.

Do you really still believe Ronaldo is better than Messi?

I mean I'm not going to say it's an unreasonable claim, because Ronaldo is a freak of nature himself and is on a different planet to the rest of football players, but IMO Messi has an edge over Ronaldo, he does things like that Bilbao goal on a relatively frequent basis, which require a certain level of ability I feel only Messi has reached.

Yes, but Ronaldo scores insane headers. The two are just vastly different.

I'm not a Ronaldo fan but yes he is more complete and more talented than Messi.

Messi is predictable but very good at what he does, Ronaldo is unpredictable.

People underestimating Messi :sergio:

The guy is a phenomenon, completely unstoppable. Even Nesta in his prime would struggle against him.

We can't stop Messi, if we let him get on the ball he will kill us. There's no point in trying to mark him closely, as he could dribble his way out of a phonebox.

What we have to do is to try and stop him getting it in the first place. Barça's midfield is good, but IMO it's not quite as good as it was between 09-12.

Iniesta is still a fantastic player, but not quite in the beast mode he was then. Rakitic is a very good player, but he's not Xavi. Busquets is good at what he does, but he's not going to create something from nothing.

If we can stop them (and Dani Alves) from getting the ball to Messi, then we have a chance. If Messi gets on the ball consistently, he'll punish us.

Who underestimated Messi? Do you even read? Or you're just trying to sound like a prick?

I said our players are using the wrong approach of talking only about Messi and praising him since couple of days now, it gives him the advantage against us. Ronaldo wasn't talked about that much and I don't see Messi as superior to Ronaldo, Ronaldo TO ME is more unpredictable than Messi. Now am I underestimating Messi here?

I've seen Juve stop Ronaldo brazilian and Zidane, but if some of you wish to kneel down on their knees and drool over then Soap it. Too much pussiness.

i used to think that too, but after seeing ronaldo being angry on his teammates cuz they don't let him tap in goals, and doesn't assist and help the offensive as much as messi i changed my mind. ronaldo can make me change my mind again in the next season if the waiter will play him as a striker.

You know who doesn't play football? You know who is a diving, weak ass, weak willed and poor excuse of a football player? Busquets. Seriously. FUCK Busquets. I don't want to hear that name here again. He does not exist.

As he plays now, Messi shits all over Ronaldo.
