Well, yes. But they are still a level below Ronaldo and Messi, both in terms of sheer quality and consistency.
Xavi is incredibly overrated by people who get caught up in tactics and witchcraft. He's a good player and he was fundamental to both Barcelona's and Spain's success, but now he's gone and Barcelona is better than ever, because they have Neymar and Suarez, who are both a lot more talented than Xavi ever was and offer 10 times the end product he ever did.

This incessant masturbating over this type of player has to stop.
But Zach has convinced us that he was their main player and they won't be the same without him.
I know.

And @Zacheryah, hear me out on this: YOU ARE WRONG.

Objectively speaking both are on the same level.

Ronaldo winning the two previous golden balls confirms that.

Yet fanbois must insist messi is a level apart and the best despite not winning it for two years.
Who won it this time? It's 4 vs 2 since 2010 and one of Ronaldo's win was only because Messi was injured. Also, FIFA has no interest in giving the award to the same player every year.

Given that you and many other people merely look at the number of goals without any analysis of the games, your confusion is understandable.

What? He was injured for 2 months. The award is for whole year. And 2nd best for whole year is Cristiano on sheer consistency.
Messi didnt really play well, while neymar was quite good when he took over in his abscence.

But considering the consistancy of ronaldo despite beeing in such awfully mismanaged club, one really cant say messi is notably better, let alone on a different level.

He's more versatily, while ronaldo continue specialising himself

That versatility is quite nice tbh.

He went from inside forward, to false 9, to playmaker.

Messi was the best player in treble winning Barca, winning this award was foregone conclusion for obvious reasons, but even then you can't come to terms with it? Weird.

Messi is on a different level to Cristiano because besides scoring he does all the playmaking for Barca (officially best assister in Europe for whole calendar year), to the point he is near midfielder now. While Cristiano has limited his game to the point he is invisible on the pitch besides the goals. In fact he can't score enough Vs the better teams as he used to. Regressing his scoring rate to big volumes in handful games now compared to consistent spread. Which is why most Real fans right now see Benzema as best performing player.

(a lot of) bayern fans think pep is rushing back players, causing them to get injured again. they aren't completely wrong imo...can't blame
müller-wohlfahrt anymore.

Let's not exaggerate here. You obviously never watch Cristiano play if you think he only scores goals.

While Messi clearly deserves the Ballon d'Or for this past year and only an idiot would say otherwise... Cristiano assists at very near the rate Messi does while playing with far less prolific forwards than Neymar and Suarez.

Last season:

Cristiano Ronaldo: 58 goals -- 19 assists -4164 minutes in CL and La Liga--- a goal/assist every 54.1 minutes
Lionel Messi: 53 goals -- 23 assists -4421 minutes in CL and La Liga---- a goal/assist every 58.2 minutes

This year:

Cristiano Ronaldo: 27 goals - 10 assists - 2340 minutes in CL and La Liga--- a goal/assist every 63.2 minutes
Lionel Messi: 14 goals - 5 assists - 1380 minutes in CL and La Liga --- a goal/assist every 72.6 minutes

You guys who say Messi is on an entirely different level exaggerate as badly as Zach does when he disparages Messi. Messi and Cristiano are pretty clearly 1a and 1b in world football for the last few years and their goal and assist outputs are almost identical.
Cristiano has a much better goal/assist per minute ratio than Messi over the last season and a half. This doesn't mean Cristiano is better, but stating Messi is on a different level and Cristiano doesn't provide assists is absurd and flies directly in the face of facts. Messi is the better player imo, because above goals+assists he's more involved in games than Cristiano, but the difference is very slim.
