In 9 games against Barcelona and Real Madrid last year, his direct competitors in both La Liga and CL, he scored 1 goal and had 0 assists. There is no way on earth that Diego Costa belongs there above Messi.

Thing is, Nedved was more important that year. These awards arent about "whos the best player if he plays to his quality", but "who was the most important player over the course of a year"

Again. Costa played 9 games last year against Barca and Real Madrid. He scored 1 goal against his direct and best competition. 1 goal in 9 games. Costa scored lots against minnow teams last year. That's about it.

Not for a UEFA award though. Liverpool didn't play in CL last year, so I think Suarez loses too many points for that. Domestic leagues though. Suarez over Costa any day.
