indeed...I think Melo needs the start, it will boost his self-confidence...PouPou has been really good the past few games, but Melo just shades it IMO.
For me, it depends on whether Melo's poor game tonight was due to tiredness.

If he was tired, rest him; if it was just a poor performance, play him.

Not sure how relevant this is, but Bordeaux lost at home 1-0 this weekend.
It ruined the chances Juve to be the first undefeated team in Bordeaux this season, but the hell with it. We'll be the first team this year who destroyed them 3:0 on their stadium.

I wasn't happy that Diego was pushed out wide today for DP. I haven't read any discussion on that yet from you guys but I think DP should have taken Gio out and stayed with the 4231 and not a 442 with Diego out wide. Diego needs to stay in the middle where he is the strongest. We can't keep changing formations to adapt to injuries and our Captain coming back, we need consistency for the other 10 players on the field...not just for DP.

I mentioned it somewhere. When Ale came on we switched to 4-4-2.

You say Diego needs to stay in the middle. Well I think Ale does too. It'll be interesting to see what the solution is regarding Ale, Diego, Camo and Gio. I'm sure Ciro will find one eventually. Ale needs to get match fit first.

Let me just build on your thought (as little as it is:D)....

in the 4231 if DP/Diego/Camo are in the 3 then really as much overlap that happens all 3 will be able to switch in get into their strongest areas with ease. They need to play together to get understanding. But in a 442 the 4 mids get isolated rather in the 4231 the 3 AMs have freedom to roam. It is much easier to get into their "respective" areas with overlap.

The problem with saying they can all just roam in a 3 is that when we don't have the ball we need to keep our shape and that will involve either Diego or Ale defending on the left (I read something today where Ciro said that DP couldn't be expected to do this).

Playing on the left of the 3 doesn't suit either DP or Diego.

4-3-1-2? Gio would get F all playing time and Camo would spend the season wasted too far back the pitch IMO.

I think this was just a temporary move because Del Piero isn't fit enough to get up and down the flank right now.

Anyway, for all the talk of how Del Piero fits a 4-2-3-1, I suspect we'll revert to a 4-3-1-2/4-3-2-1 once Del Piero is back and fit enough to start games.

I can see a 4321 with Camo back in the midfield while Diego/DP patrol the attack hopefully "helping" Amauri get back to scoring....since he is our best striker, he needs all the support he can get.:snoop:

Going on what Ciro has said, I don't think DP will ever be expected to get up and down the flank.

I agree about us probably reverting to 4-3-1-2/4-3-2-1.

I really think Camo is wasted back there. I love watching him play in 4-2-3-1.

yeah, Camo is amazing the last few weeks. :touched:

Ugh, its going to be a headache for Ciro to figure out a formation to get everyone time. Either way, most of us will be unhappy about someone sitting the bench :frown:
