Bettega reaches Hiddink deal?

Tuesday 29 December, 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reports in Holland suggest Guus Hiddink has reached an agreement with Juventus's new technical director Roberto Bettega to replace Ciro Ferrara.

The Bianconeri are on a terrible run of form, having lost five of their last six games in all competitions, the most costly coming at home to Bayern Munich who knocked the Turin giants out of the Champions League group stages.

Juventus President Jean-Claude Blanc has publicly supported Ferrara, insisting he will be on the bench at the Olimpico until the end of the season, but rumours persist that a replacement is being sought.

Earlier this month, Hiddink's agent told the Daily Telegraph that Juventus had approached his client with a view to taking over from Ferrara. He also revealed that Hiddink had rejected the offer.

Next came Luiz Felipe Scolari, the World Cup winning former Brazil manager, who also reportedly turned Juventus down and chose to remain in Uzbekistan with Bunyodkor.

However, according to Il Corriere dello Sport, Hiddink remains Juventus's No 1 target and Bettega, who was only formally unveiled yesterday, has actually been working on hiring the Dutchman over the last month.

A lot was made of the fact Bettega didn't confirm Ferrara's position during yesterday's Press Conference and some pundits now feel the latter won't be in on the bench when Juventus play Parma on January 6.

Hiddink's arrival would put the entire Juventus project in discussion as it was widely expected that Italy boss Marcello Lippi would return to the club after next summer's World Cup to perform the role of technical director, like Bettega, who would keep an eye of Ferrara.

Just saw that as well.
I think Gus refused us first time as we had a plan for Lippi's position, and now when is very clear that Lippi will not come as he confirmed recently, Gus feeling better about it.

I think it is great news, and time to shake up our team. I am expecting very good run from now, and hope that this change happen before Parma's game

I think Ciro should be evaluated at the end of the season unless it's really obvious that we're going to lose a champions league spot with him on charge, which I highly doubt to be honest.

IMO, our recent form isn't entirely Ciro's fault as most people here try to suggest. A lot of players are underperforming and also responsible for this bad form.

I'm not saying Ciro has done well so far. But, the way I see it, a coach should be given at least one season to be judged as long as there is no danger of losing a CL spot.

Guus Hiddink's agent has scotched rumours that the Dutchman is imminently arriving at Juventus.

Despite chatter on the peninsula suggesting that a deal to bring the Russia national manager to Turin is close, his handler has denied the claims.

"The whole story is an invention of the Italian media," stated Cees Van Nieuwenhuizen. "Neither I nor Guus has received any official offer from the club.

"Guus is in Kenya and the only one leading the negotiations are lions.:D

"I am spending the Christmas holiday in the south of France and the only one I'm negotiating with is my wife."
