Any formation that doesn't include wide midfielders requires our fullbacks to play well as they are the only ones providing width. It's not as though there's some magic formation where you can field fullbacks, have them play like rubbish, and it not make a difference.
The reason I wouldn't mind us trying something like that is because our strikers don't work too well together when Ale isn't there. Don't know if you've watched the team play in the last few weeks but we look like boys amongst men in the last third of the pitch. Can't even string a few passes together let alone get a decent shot on goal.
So my theory is, if the midfield is where we possess most of strength and depth then why not try to use it to our advantage. Who cares if Ancelotti's popularized it? Don't know about you, but I'd rather have any of Camo, Sissoko, Marchisio, Melo and Diego on the pitch before Iaquinta.
