Ferrara: «A balanced but tough group»

During a live link on Juventus Channel following the draws of the Champions League group stage, the bianconeri’s coach Ciro Ferrara spoke of the draws and his first impressions.

«The first impression is that of a well balanced group with teams who are currently going through a different situation with Bayern who are currently going through a bad patch and Bordeaux who last year did very well. It is a tough group but it also depends on when we will be playing the matches. I do not know Maccabi well but I am sure they will try to give us a hard time».

Juventus will make their debut this season at home: «The first match will be played on 15th September at home against Bordeaux. Bordeaux are doing well at the moment and playing at home we will have to perform well».

Bayern Munich bring happy memories to Ferrara in his years as a footballer and so does Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc: «Yes but memories are irrelevant. They are totally different teams. I will be meeting Blanc, an ex-team mate of mine with Napoli».

Juventus avoided the English and Spanish teams: «The greatest danger if you can call it so was meeting an English team or Spanish side but in my opinion it is a balanced group and a first seed is always a first seed».

Finally a comment about the condition of the French and German teams who started before: « The French and German team started before the Italians: The fact that they started before can affect the outcome. We have Roma on Sunday, then an international break and then another match in Rome and then we start and hopefully by then we would have a better physical condition. The motivation, however should be immediately high to qualify from the group».

Ferrara: «We played with great personality»
He took over in the last two matches of last season and won all four matches. He changed the formation and the players fit perfectly. Ciro Ferrara brought a new mentality to Juventus and the results followed just like today’s against Roma.

«It was a nice victory especially for the three points and the show of strength which is always important here in Rome. We wanted to understand what our potential was and I think we did so here. Tonight I must be happy and satisfied even though there are certain things which we must work on. We played with great personality and this is something really important. Those who played did really well».

The coach chose to field Marchisio instead of Camoranesi from the start: «Our intention was to win the match and since I knew that Camoranesi had certain problems with his knee and gave him half an hour of play».

The condition surely improved and yet a bit of anger about the goal was inevitable: «We must be angry when things don’t work out and in moments of difficulty. I got angry today when it came to the goal because we knew how they would have taken the free-kick immediately. The boys were angry too. In comparison to last week I think our condition improved quite a bit and we must improve it further. I am a bit worried about the break because I will only be able to work with a few players and will have only two days to work on the match against Lazio».

Finally the coach sent his best wishes to Pavel Nedved on his birthday: «Hey happy birthday Pavel! You’re getting old too!»

I have to say Ferrara got the tactics spot on today.

Every substitution was perfect, when Marchisio got injured Camo was the right solution, De Ceglie was tiring and started to struggle so moving Chiellini over made sense, and the midfield was getting outnumbered and looking tired so bringing on Poulsen was perfect.

Its a nice change to have a manager make the substitutions that you want to see rather than putting on the wrong player in the wrong position or just as bad not making a change when the team badly needs it.

So far so good from Ciro, I don't think I have ever wanted a manager to succeed as much as him!

I must confess that I'm impressed thus far. I've never expected this but I can only wish Ciro will lead us to the scudetto.

Hell yeah.... Capello transformed into total joke with his love affair with xlatan and the ale benchwarming tour.

And Ranieri.... well ......uuhhhh....... :sergio:

What are substitutions?
A substitution is when the coach decides to take one player off the field to replace with another one. In most official matches only three substitutions are allowed per team. Common causes of substitutions can be injury, fatigue, poor performance or a change in tactics.

«E’ stato un mercato eccellente. Tutti gli uomini che avevo con*cordato con i dirigenti sono arrivati e mi trovo in mano una squadra altamente competitiva.
http://www.tuttosport.com/calcio/se.../02-38372/Ferrara:+«Sì,+è+questa+la+mia+Juve»

"It was an excellent mercato. All the players i agreed about with the management (all the players that he asked for) have arrived and now i have a competetive squad."
-----------------------------
And again we see that the coach does have a say in the mercato and ain't just a "yes man" who's never asked anything and who only accepts what the directors give to him.
