Are you now saying that we achieved 3rd & 2nd position in two consecutive seasons, despite having a poor roster?

And yet you still think of Ranieri as a crappy manager?
No, my point is that we look bad because we are still weak in all the positions we have been weak in for two seasons. We have a dismal attack now that Trez and ADP are older with Amauri who sucks and Iaquinta injured. We only have two promissing defenders, our midfield only has two decent players that see regular play (Diego and Marchisio). How are Buffon, Chiellini, Caceres, Marchisio and Diego going to pull all the weight every game?

I want to make some points for the defense and creativity:

-The problem with our defense is a lot more complicated like that!
The greatest fault, falls upon the shoulders of our board. They refuse to approve funds for proper acquisitions in these places, systematically.
Even less prestigious and yes men, appointed to our manager seat, all (Ferrara, DD even CR) initially expressed their concerns about the material of our defense, but they were all forced to compromise.
This is not random and we will never find a permanent solution to our defensive issues, as long as we dont invest on the defense accordingly.

Some coaches had dif toleration and ways around this handicap than others.
DD was forced to use tried the Frenchies Boumsong+Zebina and it was barely enough for the serie B level.

CR embraced the young and Italian, but completely useless Molinaro, as he only child, the had high hopes on NT Legro and appreciated Grygera's efforts.
To protect them, he had to create a second defensive line ahead of them, with 3 DMs and two defensive wingers, creating a hopeless team, creativity wise.

Ciro, dreamed of an offensive team and he realized that the defense would be more exposed than any other team, he insisted until the last for enhancement, even with minimum investments and quick fixes, he replaced 3/4 of our defense!
He wouldnt settle with weaklings, like Moli+Grygera, but the injuries of Sissoko and the change of the scheme (from the ultra defensive efficient Neddy, to Diego)
did not allow any real results, despite the decent overall improvement of our defense!

-Our creativity issues date back, since the Capello days.
Actually we never really found balance in our midfield, since the day we lost ZZ playmaking and Davids defensive solidarity IMO.

Capello, was an old school coach, who heavily invested on defense and since we really had top material on that department, we could rely on our defense relatively comfortable, esp vs the lesser teams. With minimal risks, we had high chances of winning league type of competitions (Serie A)and limited chances of winning cups (Coppa Italia+CL).

DD had to focus on the league and take no further risks, so he kept the same system, without any risks and sacrifices (time to our players, to learn a new system and roles.) We were ugly, predictable and one sided, but our superior material was a sure bet in the long run.
We will never learn what DD envisioned for the future...

CR practically had it all, he had much more prestige as a coach, he had experience, he had far more option to choose from, both at players and systems.
But unfortunately he was too afraid to try anything new, this fear of failure was his damnation and after 2 year we came to a no way out situation with him.
His system wasnt delivering, he had no alternatives and no hope of ever improving...

Ciro was completely inexperienced, tragic mistakes were expected from him, he was bold enough to completely remodel all our lines and change the roles of almost all our players. We knew all that when we hired and our board has decided that we could somehow afford that, right now, after all these wasted years and wasted this year as well by signing such a rookie.
Ferrara is not as stupid as CR was, he sees that there is smth wrong, but he is too inexperienced to understand what exactly is and make the right move to fix it.
And for that, the players have lost their patience, the fans, waiting for so many years for an improvement wave lost their patience too and we are heading to new way out.

We now have more resources and prestige to bring high class players, to help us, like Diego and Melo. But unfortunately, since Neddy retired and DP got injured, we lack the leader on the field who will take the team from the hand and lead it forwards at the most difficult times, as DP and Neddy did for DD and CR.

Spaletti most certainly have more experience than Ciro, he would avoid more issues and could find a way out faster and he is certainly smarter than CR as well, he would try to find a solution for the same issues that were haunting for 3-4 years (unlike CR) There were times when he was a finer choice.
But as our board has proved in the past 4 years, without any doubt, finding a competent coach was never our priority!

ha ha ha, funny to read that in our current situation ... a system is not delivering, when we do draw to often :p i think the system did deliver pretty good in the 2 years. he lost the locker room probably and we needed to kick him out, but he or his system did deliver if you look at the statistics ...

and don't get me started with "he is relying on del piero or nedved all the time".

he would have been an retard if he benched those quality players just for the sake of proving that he is the greatest coach on earth who can bench champions and still win ..

Blinded by love for an imbecile.

Ranieri was a good coach for a transition period, but he has never been, and never will be a winner. Fact! However, hiring Ferrara is a downgrade, not an upgrade. Appointing a novice coach to lead a traditional great of the Italian game, a team loaded with veteran superstars, up and coming stars, and promising youngsters, to usher them into a new area, that was a massive error on the part of our management. Ferrara needed to go and earn his coaching badges elsewhere; starting off @ Juve was always to going be a tough task.
