Having had a night to reflect about this game, my views are that we were unlucky, despite not being at our best it certainly wasn't a goal.com "most shameful night in our history". We were dominating for so long, the keeper pulled off at least 2 excellent saves, they kept getting blocks in the way, the officials were terrible and as Buffon said the only way they were going to score was from a set piece opportunity which I believe was a harsh free kick.
That said despite luck being against us we wern't good enough last night, and I feel that we made the wrong decisions in terms of personnel, and it is worrying that we keep making them. If it had been me I would have played Pogba and Caceres ahead of Vidal and Isla that's for sure. It can't be doing their morale any good after scoring the goals in our most decisive game of the season and then not even getting a minute in the Champions League.
Vidal as everyone has stated hasn't been the same since the Chelsea match and Pogba has done very well, that said I think I'm in a small minority because I don't think Vidal was that bad last night, definitely not at his best but not terrible and I think it's because he has such a high standard that him playing OK looks bad. Still would have played Pogba tho.
De Ceglie has been criticised by some but I think he had a good game last night.
Isla - Now I've read a lot of people saying that he is a very good player both on here and from journalists, but I'm not seeing it yet, granted he started the season injured but is he that good? Last night he probably should have come off as bar the cross for the goal and perhaps a couple of others, his balls into the box were lacking.
Matri as much as I don't rate him had a decent game last night but as soon as he tried that effort on the half volley I wanted him off as he should know his limits and I've stated before because of all the easy chances he's missed for us in the past I'm no longer able to give him any sympathy anymore. We looked more lively with Bendtner on the pitch and I hope he starts against Catania.
A main closing optimistic point is that I'm not sure last night actually changed too much a great deal because either way we were always going to need to beat Chelsea on Matchday 5 and that remains the case. Hopefully Shakhtar can get a win or at least a point away to Chelsea which I'm unsure about given Chelsea have been in this position before of needing to win and have delivered but we shall see as Shakhtar won't be easy. Even if they do, it can come down to Shakhtar away which many are saying will be difficult and it will be but we have the quality to win out there and by the time we play them they might be already qualified so we should have a greater chance against them despite it being tough.
