I'm sick of these "first year back" apologetic loser excuses.
It's not our first year, it was our third year since Calciopoli.
Wrong way to look at the reality. Just because that team back then was called Juventus, it doesn't mean that this wasn't the first year for this Juve team.
We lacked experience. Someone here said that Di Matteo also didn't have experience and won the CL. But DM's staff had years and years of CL experience. His players played together in CL knockouts for years. All he had to do was to watch tapes of Chelsea's CL finals and semifinals, and he'd be aware how strong his team is. Conte didn't realistically know how his team compares to Europe's teams. His assistants also didn't have an idea. For lots of our players this was the first CL episode, and the first two legged match in a quarterfinal. Even against Celtic we were way too careful, because we didn't really know what to expect and how to behave.
All the CL winning teams or CL finalists as of late, were teams built for years. Teams with lots of important matches and failures behind them. This Juve team didn't even have a chance to fail before we faced Bayern. I guess we'll need to learn a lot before we make it to the semis or the final, just like Real, Bayern, Inter and Barca had to learn and fail. So, indeed, tactics and mentality were wrong, because most of our men didn't really know which tactics and what mentality is the right one. Next year we might not do better than a quarterfinal, but you can be sure that we won't make those rookie mistakes which we simply couldn't avoid making this year.
