Thoroughly professional performance. We soaked up the high pressure well and looked very confident in our defensive abilities. Although we had the odd spell in the first half where we sat too deep, you could see that there was some brilliant preparation for this game by the boss.

As for the Lichtsteiner situation, he was given a job to do. I'm not surprised the dirty job went to him as he doesn't really give a toss about being liked, but I am surprised that after he got the yellow and still got a lot of attention that we didn't get a different player to mark whichever player wanted to hustle Gigi.

Incredible rage aimed at Juve ("cheating cunts") on the Celtic forums, and I have no idea why.

This was a match completely without controversy. Sure, there was a tussle between Licht and Hooper, but they were equal and no grounds whatsoever for a penalty.

Why are they so damn angry?

You know how folk were utterly baffled by the Celtic fans coming on here declaring Celtic would win the CL?

It's this delusional persecution complex that leads them to believe they are the best team in world - or at least they would be if everyone wasn't out to get them.

They are so utterly detached from reality they cannot grasp that they could have lost a game fair and square to a superior side.

I need some funny gifs of sad celtic players and fans or something to put me in a good mood since the internet is pissing me off with all this talk about "how bad juve played" and "juve paying of refs".
Fuck British football.

Im not watching another Juventus game with British commentators
All they were talking was about us defending, like they forgot how chelsea has won last year
Expect that shit from any British/English whatever commentators. When their boys defend for 90 minutes and park jetliners in front of their goal it's brave and heroic. When foreign teams do it, all of a sudden they have a different take on it. :andyandbarcelona:

I've not been saying anything bad about Celtic this whole time, but seeing their posts on that forum, pretty disgusting. They lost, it was the most likely outcome, fucking deal with it and move on to the next match. Not to mention that we were proven innocent of match fixing. But I suppose it is too much to ask for some people to do research or think for themselves when they clearly are devoid of any sort if intelligence.

I see.

Fascinating!

Former Celtic star on facing the Juve of the past:

"They did everything to upset us,” McGarvey told the Daily Record. “Pulling your jersey was the least of it.

“I was spat on, elbowed and their defenders were even pulling the hairs out of my legs. The worst, though, was when Gentile knocked me out. It happened during the first half in Italy when we were attacking and the referee and the linesman were following the play.

“He just came up behind me and punched me in the head. I was unconscious. Our physio brought me round with smelling salts – and they were disgusting.

“Back then being knocked out wasn’t enough to have you substituted so I played on while the rough treatment continued.

“I was always very good when it came to keeping my discipline as a player and I didn’t respond to any of the fouls or the spitting.

“However, once the final whistle went I lost my head and went in search of Gentile. I went up the tunnel shouting for him and I was determined to land one on him for what he did.

“It’s the only time in my life I’ve ever reacted like that but I was furious about what he’d done. I didn’t get to him but that was probably the best thing that ever happened to me because he was twice my size!”

Juve

We won for the simple reason that we were tactically superior and Lennon's approach was one dimensional. It was inevitable that they would try to blitz us with incessant pace and attack. Conte knew that, and equally inevitable was the fact they would tire.

So we set up to soak it up. And wait, and wait, and wait for the inevitable tiring of legs and the inevitable mistakes. The first goal was a gift, and to be fair to Celtic it didn't dishearten them much.

But indeed, as the hour mark came around, more mistakes were made and we pounced and took our chances. We were clinical and precise in both our defending, midfield play (most of the time) and finishing. We looked for the right opportunities at the right times, broke from midfield and capitalised on the errors we had predicted would come.

Perfect tactically. Celtic friends I've seen have been making comments Celtic "didn't deserve" to lose 3-0. They did. Because their tactics were basic, naive and one dimensional.

Celtic's "amazing" performance came from one angle and one angle only - fast pace blitzing. A better tactician than Lennon would come up with something different and would realise that after 60 minutes of that, you'd be taking a huge risk and leaving yourself hugely exposed to making tired mistakes - exactly as happened for the 2nd and 3rd goals
Just a lil bump of my analysis now the post match rush has died down.

Celtic weren't the better team. A team is more than its players and their energy. Lesser manager and lesser tactics. Their players followed their orders to the best of their ability but those orders were flawed from the outset.

I think your first post was pretty much spot on as well

Very amusing to see the reaction from the game. Lichtsteiner-Hooper involved both players doing exactly the same thing (and both players were also diving around on the floor on that one occasion), Padoin-Brown was pretty similar, there was absolutely no holding or shirt pulling, he was just trying to prevent movement and it got a bit heated.

Just imagine if Chiellini was out there, with his properly rough antics at corners. Bizarre how it is treated by fans of British teams.

Seemed to be very cautious because of that away goal early on, Conte was probably more aware of how many leads Juve have lost in the last month or so, and Celtic look like an incredibly normal set of players (some of them seem overweight by the way). Shame Llorente wasn't out there, could have done with a bit of hold up play to create some space, but both forwards scored so I can't really complain about them. I don't really want to see Juve express themselves in the return leg either, just save energy and make it as dull as possible :D

Best player was probably Marchisio or Peluso, all our goals came from our left side where they were set up as well.

I remember Scott Brown being a cunt from an Italy game several years ago. Glad he was embarrassed.

just finished watching the game as i was flying earlier, what a performance! vintage juve in europe, almost everyone had an exemplary game, but i will single out peluso, barzagli and matri who were just stellar.
    + Marchisio

Yeah I don't really get it either. Sure Licht was an annoyance but Hooper did the exact same thing. Sour grapes I think :p
