That is not the rule though.

If the offensive player is passing the ball and it takes a deflection from a defensive player then the deflection doesn't matter and you still look at the initial pass.

But RM player didn't pass the ball here, it was a challenge, multiple people flying in and the final deflection came from Fabinho and went to Benzema. Clear goal.

I dislike both teams but I am a bit annoyed by the Pool jerkfest all over the media.

Plus I think Benz has been standout best player of the year. Been really enjoyable to watch this season. Would like to see him lift the CL.

That's fine, but shouldn't they also look where the first pass is directed? Imo Velverde was passing to the left, to Vinicius, who wasn't offside.

As opposed to intentional deflection? I dont get it because 2 players touched it after Valverde and it went to opposite direction Valverde touched it towards, so why is it offside on benzema. Decision is weird...
