Chiellini sees Juve bright side

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]Failing to qualify for Europe may prove to be a benefit to Juventus in 2011-12, says Giorgio Chiellini.

The Old Lady will only be playing in Serie A and for the Coppa Italia next term after finishing the last campaign in seventh for the second consecutive year.

“The fact that we’re not competing in the Cups could give us something more, like we had in Claudio Ranieri’s first season here,” stated the Italian international.

“The last two seasons have been tough and have affected us, and now we’re working hard. We will always need to do this, with the same intensity that we’ve shown in these past few days.

“We’ll start from scratch, without making big statements and avoiding fixed targets, but with the will to battle.

“It’s a new group and there could be pleasant surprises. The foundations are there and on paper we’re definitely not a seventh-place team.”

The Old Lady are now bossed by former captain Antonio Conte, a man who has underlined the importance of being mentally prepared for battle.

“Our attitude needs to change and the Coach is putting great focus on this,” added the central defender.

“Juventus’ DNA and spirit can’t just be words. Something has been missing in the last two years,” he added.

“I’ll use Napoli as an example – they have a team full of great players, but they’re not of the world class level like Inter and Milan.

“And yet they were able to remain in the hunt for the title until five or six games from the end of the campaign.”

Chiellini has worked with his fair share of tacticians in Turin, but he has confidence in the former Bari, Atalanta and Siena tactician.

“Conte’s first impact has been very positive. He’s showing conviction in his ideas and is well prepared.

“The fact that he’s played here, but also been the leader of a winning squad, has an important meaning for everyone.

“Now we must learn what Conte wants from us and we hope to be able to find the right spirit to change direction.

“We want to play a key role in the championship season.”

I'm giving Chiellini another season and if we still have a shit defense 3 seasons in a row then we seriously need to reevaluate his game. We can't keep on blaming everyone else all the time.
