A bit unfair to compare Chiellini to that generation of defenders anyway...there's prob never been an era in any league with defenders as strong as that. In fact the standard of football these days is nowhere near what it was from late 90s to mid 2000s.
I know it's unfair, but the point stands because the league is not as good as it was then. Put him in that time and he would look like a puppy out there. Those boys in their prime would walk all over him.

My point was (is), that this league is not what it used to be and if he is struggling (like against Genoa) off an on all season and not maintaining the top 3 in CBs, it's a concern. It isn't like he has to compete against the names I mentioned. He has Silva, Samual and who else to compete for top ranks? When he is consistent, he is great.

Vidic, Cole, Ferdinand, Vermalen, Kompany etc would struggle to keep up with the defenders of that era, bro. As I said the standard of footballer these day ain't what it was 5-10 years ago. That was an absolute golden era of football not just in Italy, but in Club Football. No league will ever be as strong as that Serie A you talk of.

He did very little today. I noticed Conte opted to push Licht much higher up the field and Chiellini saw much less of the ball. Surely by design.

I wasn't all that impressed with him today. He left acres of space on the left side in the first half and picked up a stupid yellow.

He has an incredible fighting spirit though
