Canna: No Fabio yet
Napoli defender Paolo Cannavaro has spoken in response to rumours that his brother Fabio may be joining him at the Stadio San Paolo.
Recent Press speculation has suggested that the talismanic Azzurri stopper may leave Real Madrid and return to Italy with hometown club Napoli and former side Juventus the most likely destinations.
“My brother can’t wait to play for us,” admitted Paolo in an interview for Rai Sport. “But it won’t be for a while because at the moment he’s playing for a world-class side.”
The Vesuviani secured promotion to Serie A after an emotional final-day draw at Genoa last term and the people of Naples are awaiting the new campaign with frenzied anticipation.
So far there have only been a handful of new recruits to the Partenopei’s cause, with young Slovak talent Marek Hamsyk the most notable addition to the squad.
However, it seems almost certain that deadly Reggina hitman Rolando Bianchi is set to arrive in a high-profile coup.
Despite the excitement and his air of optimism, Cannavaro has called for caution and his objectives for the coming season remain realistic.
“We have to be ambitious and we have reason to be,” the ex-Parma stopper insisted. “We’re aiming for the top, but our first priority is to ensure we stay up as quickly as possible.
"The club have made important signings, especially putting their faith in youth, but that comes with its own risks.”
