In a cometition that contains names like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, Inter, Bayeren....
Those names should not go further than the quarters at their best day....

then thats when the coach comes in. (and the draw)

I dont want to take nothing from King Otto,
he is just an exception to the rule,
he gave more than30% to our national team.
Greel NT was heavily underrated,
Greek players today are overrated so thats where the big dif comes from.
our national team never had a leader,
some cliques were formed and some players thought they are untouchable and can do what they wish,
even decide who will be in fisrt eleven,
all the coaches who tried to do smth were drown because they failed to have results from their first games
(this is how things work in Greece)
some of our best players(like stiker Nikolaidis and other AEK players) threteaned they wont play for NT again if things wont change.
The press were only critising how many players the coaches used from the 2big greek clubs and why,
there was anarchy,no hope, just fury.
And then one day a German coach announced,
a man who will finally bring order to chaos,
he was given the absolute power to change everything,
he threw away from the team some players who did bad(cliques),
he trusted the first team players playing abroad and totally ignored the 2big clubs fight,
he changed the system, the mentality, everything.
he even talked to Nikolaidis to come back,
hope and optimism was back again in our team.
Greeks are well known that they can get carried away in a dream of total succes,
the first games werent that good,
two looses i believe from medium range teams,
but for the first time smth changed, critics and fights werent as present as before,
the players were hungry to proove themselves and now they had the best change of their lives,
they were strongly motivated not only from their coach,
but from 10.000.000 proud people, hungry for a win they never tasted.
Greek NT was only a dissapointment so far,
the coach guide them well, he made a solid team virtually out of nothing and gave them hope,
he always repeated Greek players have quality
someone believed him, in the end even the players believd him.
Those players fought with their hearts in Euro just to proove they are not garbage,as they were considered from the rest of Europe,
they foughts against their idols, their adversaries in club level,
the ones who were payed ten times more than them,
the ones who get the offers,
the ones who get the first team positions.
Otto knew Greece didnt have the means to play beautifull and constructive football,
he knew that the results come from the defence,
that was the only way, even if it make us the most predictable team in Europe.

It was Greece's luck in the offence,
other teams lack of stamina after playing hard seasons in great championships and great clubs and many other factors that led the Greece to win that competition.
I believe the main factor was the players hunger for titles,
champions dont have that hunger,(neddy did but was unlucky again)
is Greece really better than France and Chech?
we will see how really good coach Rehhagel is now with the same players but without the same hunger,
anyway he prooved so far he was the best Greece ever had.

Mourinhio was smart enough to moove away from Porto after the succes and find a new hungry team and the means to work with.
Those coaches bet with the right cards,
many try, most of them fail,
but there is got to be a winner,
not always capable but lucky too,
think of it like many people are playing in a casino, but very few actually make a profit of it.

Everybody reports ex from cup competitions,
even CL as UEFA managed to destroy it now(it isnt a league, its a cup) involve luck,
a big team can have any time a bad game and get disqualified,
everybody has small chances to reach to the final,
noone can do it without luck,
its a kind of random,
there are4-5 big teams and so many "small" teams,
in cup type competitions the odds are turned against big teams,
one game is enough to ruin ur season.
The winner is first of all lucky and determinated and then capable.
And dont forget the hunger factor.

I dont want to take credit from those great coaches,
i just want to point out that their role isnt that spectacular as it looks,
ofcourse they are the ones who guide the team
and winning a competition with a small team looks the most dif thing to do, but some times its just because the big teams loosed that, any team can be in a bad mode for no reason,
the result doesnt always shows the best team,
any accidentation, red card etc etc may alterate the result,
and there is no coach in the world who can control luck,
so many things may happen that they are out of every coaches hand,
there are hundreds of factors that may involve to final result,
coach is just one of them.
In the high level of competition the differences between the coaches are so small, the dif cannot be made only by a coach or a player esp in a team rolling like Juventus,
there is no coach in the world(Mourinhio,Benitez or whatever) who can make us 30-40% better than we are now,
only half destoyed teams like Greece and Inter used to be,
with decent (and underrated)material may have that kind of spectacular results,
i mean when everything else is fine and the only need is the coach.
