If a player doesn't play in a national game that he was called up for because of injury he has to be absent from a previous or sucessive league game. Vargas wasn't allowed to play for Catania as a result of not playing for Peru after a call up yet Materazzi played. The rule WAS violated. Stop beating a dead horse. You are wrong. You should be used to that.

Zanetti's example is different. If someone retires then they are not getting called up. Even if they did the excuse would be retirement and not injury. You can be retired from the NT and active for the club Denco. The whole point of this rule is to ensure that if a player skips out on teh NT due to injury that he is actually injured. He demonstrates that by being injured in either the previous or successive league game.

The punishment for fielding an illegal player is a 3-0 loss.
