Some rule in Italy states that you can't play in the league if you skip international duty that week for health reasons. It happened to Catania when Vargas wasn't allowed to play once so they are pissed. Materazzi wasn't supposed to play and did. Nothing will happen. Welcome to Serie Telecom.

Does this go for all the players who missed the international matches and played in the weekend or only for the ones who get "injured" right before the internationals and get well right after the international matches finish ?

Because Buffon also missed Italy-Portugal due to health reasons and played in serie A 3 days later but his situation can not be compared to Materazzi's.

It is: if you play 5 matches for your club in a row, pull out of your national team a day before the match saying you have a pulled thigh muscle, and then play in a match for 90 minutes 3 days after

It only is applied to injured players who were called up and refused. Buffon wasn't called up. Besides he missed prior matches for Juve as well.

    Just as i thought. Thanks

Well, since Samuel is injured it would have been too much to play the match of the season, against Liverpool, without the other CB. Why risk him for some silly friendly match of the Italian national team, right ?
    Fucking merda.
With the way they've been treating the Italian NT and with the number of players they've been giving to the ITA NT in last 5 years, i'm really surprised they still have fans in Italy.

Ha if you ask Italian Intertristi "Matrix won the World Cup" for Italy. It proves they only see what they want. Ya he score in the final but they missed the penalty he caused earlier in the same match.

In any case they are now saying that it was the FIGC medic who analyzed him and sent him home. I'm not saying they are lying because I wasn't there but imo whether it is true or not, that is exactly what would have been said.

As stated previously, nothing will happen.

Cannavaro On Calciopoli: Juve Won Titles Fair & Square

Fabio Cannavaro has declared that Juventus won their two Scudetti from 2005 and 2006 because they were the best team and could not care less about the telephone calls accusations.

    Calciopoli

The Bianconeri were infamously relegated to Serie B and had the two Scudetti they had won under Fabio Capello revoked following the outbreak of the Calciopoli scandal in the summer of 2006.

Most Juventus players from that time are still bitter about what has happened and stress that they won these Scudetti not because any cheating was going on, but simply because they were the best team.

“Us players from that Juve side that was tried and punished feel like they were our Scudetti that were taken away and we feel the same as Inter do now,” Cannavaro told Il Messaggero.

“We came first because we were the best team and we don’t care much about the telephone calls.”

    Inter

Cannavaro was asked about the recent accusations that Inter are being favoured by referees this season.

The Azzurri captain believes that the teams who are winning will always have these kind of controversies following them.

“When you win, you become unpopular and the refereeing errors that were always there become noticed,” he explained.

“Referees aren’t aliens and when their mistakes help the leaders, like Inter at the moment, there is controversy.

“The latest decisions in Inter’s favour were important and costly as they took hope away from the sides chasing the Nerazzurri.”

We Have Many Friends, Says Ironic Moratti

Inter president Massimo Moratti replied with a joke to the latest news that Catania were appealing to the Lega Calcio to have the result of last Sunday's game overturned...

The Sicilian side are appealing against last weekend's 2-0 defeat against the Nerazzurri due to the fact that Marco Materazzi was fielded even though he missed his national team mid-week game.

Moratti replied with ironic flair to the news.

"We have many friends around Italy - this is one of them," commented the Nerazzurri's chairman to 'TG3 Veneto'.

However, in a more serious tone, Moratti applauded the sporting arbiter, Gianpaolo Tosel, for his decision of reserving judgement, which will most likely go in favour of Inter.

That's because Materazzi had in fact accepted that call-up of Donadoni, but after being visited by the national team's doctors, he was sent back home.

In Italy there is a rule which states that, if a player does not respond to a national team call-up, then he cannot play in the next league game of the following weekend.

Yeah, moRATti! You have many friends - all bought ones!

Cruz: Don’t Compare Us With Cheating Juve

Juilo Cruz has hit out at those who are comparing the alleged favouritism that Inter are receiving this season to what Juventus were supposedly getting before Calciopoli.

There has been something of a storm in Serie A over the past month following a series of controversial refereeing decisions in games involving Inter.

Some sections of the press have claimed that Inter are being favoured by officials, while others are drawing comparisons between the Nerazzurri and Juventus in pre-Calciopoli times.

"The referees can make mistakes but if this is the case then it is not our fault,” said Cruz.

“Subservience is not a factor and I cannot stand the comparisons between us and the Juve of once upon a time.

“Then I was playing for Bologna and I noticed there was something strange going on.”

Cruz’s comments are sure to only add extra fire to the current slanging match between Inter and Juventus.

The two clubs have developed into the bitterest of enemies since the Calciopoli crisis, and only last week the two presidents Giovanni Cobolli Gigli and Massimo Moratti were undertaking a public feud through the newspapers regarding the legality of the 2002 Scudetto.

i was wondering if i really wanted inter to stop cheating or whatever is going on now in serieA, and i have come to the conclusion that i don't want it to stop, yet. i want to see them relegated and it is a way to get it done. i just hope that inter leaves behind as many evidences as it is humanely possible and that those evidences find their way to the right hands.

he ain't the only one with the money and, it ain't all about the money, it's how you use it. moratti had the money all the time but from 198- something to 2005; no trophies. if he couldn't buy inter out then, then it's also plausible that he won't be able to buy his way out in the near future.
