Gigi Buffon and Andrea Pirlo’s consistent brilliance throughout Juve’s run to 2011/12 Scudetto success has been acknowledged by their nomination for the UEFA Best Player in Europe award, to be presented in Monaco in August.
The honour, introduced last year by UEFA President Michel Platini, is designed to revive the spirit of the former European Footballer of the Year honour. The list of 32 players was drawn up after 53 journalists from each of UEFA’s member associations cast their votes.
