Didn't really like the recent episode. I knew the direction the show was taking in terms of Walt becoming absolutely evil but I didn't expect it to happen so suddenly. Its not very subtle.

Doing what he did in the last couple of episodes, you can tell that he was already waaaaaaayy overboard with the whole evil thing.
I mean the kid thing? COME ON!!
In the latest episode it was just evident because he had a lot of "cleaning up" to do.

And I don't think it will drag with the evil thing too much, once the cleaning is done it is the next stage. Then again the show is called Breaking Bad.

And I agree that the best moments of the show are when the writers lay a trap of expectations for the audience and then surprise you with a total curve.

I actually thought that was some of the weakest writing in the episode -- at least in terms of character believability. I immediately thought of magnetizing the hard drive when the quandry came up to the three of them, and I couldn't believe that the recovering drug addict and not the science teacher came up with the idea of magnetizing it. That seemed a little contrived to me.

The recovering drug addict did not think about magnetizing the hard drives but he thought he would suck it with a magnet but once the magnet was mentioned Walter thought of magnetizing it. That's why it turned out funny.

The guy worked in a multi-million-dollar chemical processing facility built to his design specifications. I think it's safe to gander he knows a little about physics too.

But I mean, even in the last episode of last season he might have been compromising his principles and in that sense was becoming more evil but as soon as he kills a man he goes all out evil just like that? He is pretty much a complete dick in every interaction he has with every other character. Even Tony Soprano, Tony Montana (characters which the shows writer said he would base Walt on for this season) had a guise of amicability and normalcy that hid the true evil within.
