Actually it's the opposite, when body builders look in mirrors is mostly to auto-criticize their physiques. I know people who work out twice a day every day be it christmas or mother's funeral. I guess body builders are pretty insecure :D

but still lifting is such a great activity both on the physical and psychological levels. That sense of accomplishment is a boost to anyone's ego. Girls also dig great bodies and you can get modelling gigs with armani exchange ;)

so whats your point ??

Perfectionist are insecure about their current state otherwise they would be "satisfied" . Just as a euphemism for insecurity could be fault recognition. At any rate i know guys who look totally great(man that sounded gay) but they're never happy there's always a weakness. Behavior like that can lead a person to pick up "juice" or become real depressed etc

I think that if your competing, then you have to do your best to look proportionate (symmetrical), because when you are on stage, the judges will be quick to spot a glaring weakness

I know guys who have huge chests, but are real lacking the calf area, so it is best for them to really work the calves, and ease off the pec area

I think the ppl who become depressed are usually the ones on the juice...because if your dumb enough to take it to that level (I know plenty of guys who are), then you have some serious emotional problems

Behavior changes, because their brains are full of testosterone (along with everything else !!), and they become very moody. The only thing worse is when their off the drugs, and they see their bodies shrink

most non-drug taking ppl who work out usually know their bodies limits (you can reach your full potential within a few years), and are satisfied with that

For me, the name of the game is staying cut- I'm not getting any younger, and my metabolism wont stay fast forever

Btw i just remembered something do you go to St paul's in Buffalo?
the only St. Pauls I've heard of around here is in Kenmore, NY

What's with the thing with bodybuilders and mirrors?
Have to say that annoys me too. In fact the last thing I want to when lifting weights is see myself in the mirror. The way most of them look in the mirror and treasure their arms is simply too much.

It's not all about ego. There's supposedly some benefit in seeing which muscle groups are flexing as you work. Can't say I recall the details though.

Been to the gym for quite a while
Works well for me
Became fitter
Still need to do some training on the arms since my legs r of tree-trunk size

Now I'm planning to accompany my fren to the gym after he claimed that his arms r "too weak"

its not about ego...

its about balance.... making sure that when you lift the weight, both sides are equal (proper form) ,and focusing on what muscle your working

I buy that when they're actually lifting. However they also stare at their bodies when they're not doing anything.
