I read that "Sports courts" are not really courts or part of the judiciary at all, they're more like a committee of football administrators so there is a revolving door between them and clubs and journalists, and its highly political.
The surprise is not that they happen to be fans of one club or another. Ofc they are, everyone in Italy supports one of the big clubs and is probably a fanatic. I imagine the English FA members too are Pool or City or United or Arsenal fans thats not disqualifying nor evidence of prejudice on it own.
What is surprising and disqualifying is the extent to which they show fanaticism in such a public manner, declaring judgments ahead of investigations etc.. they're not trying to be or even trying to appear fair.

While most of the time these sports tribunals have lawyers in them, there are various ways in which the rights of parties are better protected in actual courts. I'm also not a fan of lawyers becoming judges, because lawyers are partial their entire lives (they defend one party) and judges are supposed to be impartial. It's simply not natural for a lawyer to be impartial.
I agree that the mere fact that they are fans of a certain club does not preclude them from deciding over certain matters. Everyone is a fan. But when you make statemens saying you are against those thieving sons of bitches of Juventus, you obviously can't decide a case where Juventus are accused of financial wrongdoing. I myself could probably judge more or less fairly when it comes to Atalanta or even Napoli, but intellectual honesty would require me to say that I cannot be anywhere near impartial if it comes to Inter. Inter are the only club I hate and if they were to perish tomorrow I would drive to Appiano Gentile and salt the earth of the training ground so that they may never rise again.
That these people did not feel the need to step aside on their own shows they have no moral integrity whatsoever.
