I'm not really sure if you've seen much of him but Kovacic is arguably better than any midfielder we have barring Pjanic. I haven't seen too much of him at Chelsea but he's performed at the very highest level. Shut down Messi in a clasico and bossed the midfield against PSG in last season's round of 16 2nd leg at the Parc des Princes. Also, most crucially, he has a key attribute that our midfield is seriously lacking which is his ability to burst forward and carry the ball from midfield to attack. He's a very good dribbler with great acceleration. Currently, we have no ball carrying midfielders on the team or one with his skillset as he can play in any of the midfield 3 positions.

Thats not really an argument against him. He joined hall of fame with the likes of Snaijder, Robben and dozens of players that werent good enough for Real. Not saying hes that kind of caliber, but you know Real and their frequency of acquiring shinny new toy, just to quickly toss it away.

Also, how many of our players would get in over Modric, Kroos and Casemiro? Not getting to start for Real is not a knock againt almost anyone. If we got him in the summer, he would be starting next to Pjanic and Matuidi, and he would be a natural fit next to them

Yeah maybe. Not a fan of Kovacic tbh. He messed up for accepting Real's bench too long. Almost like he enjoyed having less responsibilities, while winning trophies and great salary. Good deal for anyone, but it took its toll. He regressed quite a bit compared to his Inter days. He is now in situation where he needs to switch on again and it harder than he expected. Id stay away from him and focus on Ndombele. Imo

Torreira would be perfect alongside Pjanic. He’s definitely a better player than Can, and only cost 9mil more.

Our scouting of midfielders is just really poor. Teams with less money than us (Napoli, Atletico) have a better midfield than us.

It's nothing to do with scouting, but technical and financial choices by those in charge. Do you think a club of Juve's size does not know every decent player playing in a top 6 or so league (and beyond), let alone someone who was in their own league?

I haved mixed feelings about Matuidi similar to cuadrado.

When playing away against tough teams you reaaly want them in the side for their workrate (almost like having an extra man) but most of the games we play are not like that.

When we have the ball then matuidi's running is uneccessary and he is somewhat of a hinderance when he makes a good run but then cant control the pass.

Cant loan him out and cant just let him sit idly on the bench between big games. If only we could get him fit then freeze him and only bring out of storage when necessary.

My opinion too. He's incredibly useful in any big match where the opposing team tries to go toe-to-toe with us, home or away.

But against the minnows, he can be a detriment to building play at times, especially when he's off form.

When he arrived he was much less sure of where he fit on the pitch. He didn't know if he was a CAM, a CM or CDM. He also learned a lot from Modric. He would EASILY improve this midfield. Madrid fans were desperate for him to remain when did leave for Chelsea. The club didn't want him to leave either.

During the WC he was second not only to Modric but also to Rakitic and Brozovic. If he developed so much at Madrid why he has no impact in Chelsea at all?

He was a very integral part of key victories like the clasicos against Barca and the victories against PSG and Atletico (3-0). He left because he pushed for the move. Just like Benatia did just this window. And they didn't sign anyone else because frankly they have tons of midfield players that are pretty talented. Ceballos (who was practically frozen out by Zidane) took on his role from last season and is arguably as talented as Kovacic if not more (another player that would improve Juve). They gave all of those minutes to him and he's been playing even more than Isco. Not to mention they had Valverde and Marcos Llorente coming in who need minutes. If you look at RM social media, they were all upset that he left. And he's playing regularly for Chelsea. He's actually first choice LCM. The team is just dysfunctional at the moment and every one of their midfielders are having minimal impact including summer signing Jorginho (who's probably been the worst) and Kante.

Should have brought Tielemaans from Monaco this window before he left for Leicester. Quality player, would definitely improve our midfield and The Foxes got him in exchange for some Portuguese scrub :/
