I still stand on my point to be in favour of Matuidi's contract extension - 1 or 2 years max, with progressive decrease salary. A competitive team need a player like him (even if it's not the most skilled player in the world) who can break opponents lines and keep pressure on them, who can be versatile (can give a hand as left fullback), will never moan to be benched, has a winning mentality and can be a good veteran for the newcomers and the youngest to see his dedication on and out the pitch.
