It's seems dangerous to speak about penalty kicks, when we speak about Roby: everyone remembrers the final match of Usa 94, but that gave us a unexpected and inexplicable image of Roby at the last penalty-kick.

Infact the numbers show us a unique and inimitable shot from 11 metres: Roby Baggio is the best Italian penalty-kicker of all time.

In the Italian Championships he has the first position (70 Attempts, 62 Goals, 88.57%) before Diego Maradona (34 attempts, 30 Goals, 88.24%): a guaranty of his enterprise.

Inside of this Roby boasts also two big consecutive series (14 and 16 goals), the first position for Goals (62) and a best season, the Bologna one (1997/1998), in which he scored 100% of his penalty-kicks (11 goals).

And so.. can a champion like this miss a world-cup penalty-kick? If we take a look of the football history......yes!

In Mexico 86 (Brazil-France; quarter-finals) Platini and Zico missed their decisive penalty-kicks, all the people understood to be a big champion is not to be an infallible machine, but "only" to be a man: a man bigger than the bad luck.

Penalty Kicks is where the weak get sperated from the strong

The Weak Minded wIll always miss

One thing is the goalie making a unhuman Save

But Letting The whole of Europe Down by shooting 1 meter over the bar

    :frown:

    That just doesn't cut it

I disagree, all it takes is the sunning hitting your eye, the grass being bumpy etc. and you'll miss.

Players such as Zico and Maradona famously missed their penaltys and you wouldn't call them "weak" now would you?

    Yes I would

They were weak at heart or mind at the given situation felt a small stinge of doubt and let it get to their minds

Besides Zico is way overated as a player.....

You know at some games they have these Fans shoot outs

and the Second Goalie of the Premiership team gets to stand in goal while fans shoot penalties.
The fans are not wearing football shoes or the proper gear.
They have just been on the pitch for a couple of seconds.....
They are not used to have 10 000 spectators above their head
    and they are not professionals!!!!

    Still 80% Score
and it is at few times I see a penalty as poor as the one against
Baresi and Baggio shot against Brazil.

Well, obviously you're entitled to your opinon.
But you must realise that the pressure on the experinced and the star-players is much higher than on anyone else, they're the ones who "must" convert their penalties.

And as for your argument on Fans shoot-out:
First of all: I seriously doubt that the level of the keepers concentration is anyway near as high as if it were a cup final.

Regarding your statement on the guests not wearing the proper gear:
i don't see how a number on my back and a pair of knee-pads is going to help my shooting/concentration.

You said that these people only get a couple of seconds on the pitch.
How many hours of running around on a pitch do you need
before you feel "ready" to kick a ball? wouldn't you think that the fact that they are not fatigued would work in their favour.

Stating that they have to get accuainted with the surface doesn't hold, as you said that it's all down to the mental abilites one has.

As not being used to standing in front of a crowd of 10 000, it doesn't even compare to taking a penalty in a world-cup, no matter who you are. Do you honestly think any of the spectators would mind if you missed a penalty in a "fans shoot-out"? Of course not.
100 000 people at the Maracana would. they would really mind.

It takes a bigger man to return 4 years later and distinguish the ghosts.

    UNZIP AND WATCH

The USA 94 Final match was unique in the way it ended and u cant blame anyone who misses in those situations.

Baggio was the main reason they got to USA 94 and the main reason they got to the final.
