Is that how you define good bands?

By that logic the yardbirds are the greatest rock band ever?

Im telling you what music I like and I rate. Its irrelevent who sells more albums and who inspirated what. Micheal Jackson sold more albums than them all and he sucks ass.

I said I rate stones higher, they have a better catalogue of songs.

Sure I can like Zep like you because they are relevent. But the only way I listen to that crap is if im high.

The Beatles were greater than anyone the headteachers so to speak. Best contemporary band is Radiohead by a long mile. No other artist has their clarity, creativity and innovation. If you believe they are depressing I will hold nothing against you though

Also anyone heard the new Oasis track? Isn't it awful as ever?

Im not talking about how much they sold or how much they influenced music. I dont doubt that. But like I said I think they are overrated, their music to me isnt that special and certainly not as superb as the hype would let you believe.

I think 90% of their music is rubbish. Maybe 6 good songs one of which is the most overrated, overplayed song in history.

Rolling Stones id even put above Zep. Depends what your into.
90% rubbish? Again, LMAO. How many of their albums have you actually heard? I'd be willing to bet not one all the way through.

You're right that who sold the most albums doesn't prove anything (though for the record Zeppelin actually sold more than MJ overall), but in Zep's case it was achieved with almost no publicity or hype. THey were the real deal. It's such a shame brilliant musicianship isn't appreciated these days by young people, even those who like rock.

Ah well, considering your comments on the Beatles ("they suck" - what are you, 12?) it's obvious that quality isn't something you're the best judge of in music. You talk about the Beatles with no sense of perspective whatsoever and are clearly judging them out of context...their early stuff was poppy sure, but their later stuff was too experimental, too out there (especially for the time) and too interesting to be dismissed as "pop" - they were the forefunners of popular music today and their importance can't be overstated (though Intro maybe talks them up a bit too much - they were instrumentally limited for one thing). To say they suck though is just highly ignorant.

As for Zep, maybe your musical tastes just need to mature a bit so you can recognise true musical talent. Zep were around 30 years before Soundgarden, and they'll be around 100 years after them.

Again no offence intended (I'm sure you're a nice person and all that), but you've got a lot to learn.

Its not about learning anything, thats why I said about hype. I like music for how it is not for all the crap that comes with it. I believe I know a great deal about music, Ive heard about every band that exist.

I never said I dont like Zep, I said they are one of the most overrated bands in the world, im not the only one of this opinion.

Ok I'll wait 30 years so I can recognise their talent :howler: Pleasee. Music is pick up and play. The song remains the same

The beetles? FFS please dont even start.

I don't mean learning the hype aspects, I mean heightening your ability to appreciate music, and what makes good music and what makes ordinary music. You do not know a great deal about music I'm afraid when you come out with statements like "The Beatles suck". Whether you actually like any of their stuff or not, saying they suck is pure ignorance. AS is referring to 90% of Zeppelin's output as "garbage". Too much ability, vision and talent went into it, WAY too much for that statement not to be just absurd. Even if they are overrated (which I don't think they are), that's still a ridiculous thing to say.

Oh and you don't need to wait 30 years - I was merely making the point that Zeppelin's music will last forever, such is its power, whereas the band you compared them to will be a minor footnote in music history.

And anyway not all music is pick up and play, some is more immediately accessible than other stuff - some music has obvious hooks, and some stuff draws you in the more you listen to it. When I first heard some of Frank Zappa's stuff I didn't get it, but the more I hear it the more I appreciate the genius behind it.
