Nickelback is shite as well.

You know a good band? Third Eye Blind blows everybody out of the water (at least those mentioned in this thread).

ok, nevermind radiohead, but led zeppelin, the dorrs etc??

andy, seriously, you should stay away from rock music discussions..

Sorry I'm not a fan of that old shite. It's just doesn't sound good to me and I don't know why people love it. The oldest music I like is Nirvana.

Led Zeppelin: Haven't made an album since 1979
Doors: Haven't made an album since 1970
Beatles: Haven't made an album since 1970
Rolling Stones: Haven't made a GOOD album since 1981 (Tattoo You)

What does this say about the current state of Rock when these 4 groups are STILL mentioned as among the greatest groups ever, not only by people my age, but by those who are half my age??

Add Queen, Cream, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple to this list as well.

Zeppelin is the best, straight out rock band IMO. You have other, more alternative bands that are also very very good, but if you asked me: "best rock?" I'm pretty sure I would say Zeppelin.

And Radiohead is an excellent band.

And Sergio: I believe that rock has a bright future, if you look at what bands like Volta and ...Trail of Dead are doing now. But if people are looking for the new Aerosmith they are gonna be disappointed.

These bands Sergio are the teachers, other bands learned from them, imitated them and wanted to be them....I listen to new rock bands among other genres but these are the evergreens IMO

Now Muse is a great band; I really enjoy their music.

Torkel: The Mars Volta seems a bit weird to me, especially with their new song out now. The video for that is just wack.

nah... I like them but they arent the doors or the who or queen ....or soundgarden for that matter
LMAO Led Zeppelin are no Soundgarden? That's the funniest thing I've read all year.

In terms of marrying instrumental talent with tightness and togetherness, and in terms of sheer presence and power, Zeppelin own any other rock group. They would have played any other band of the stage.

As for the others you mention, Queen are an excellent, excellent group, but you can't compare Brian May as a guitarist with Jimmy Page (and you certainly can't compare Pete Townshend with him).

Whats funny about it?

Id take soundgarden every day of the week.

Zep are ok, but I think much overrated, few hits and alot of garbage.

Rock music is dead right now. American Rock is a complete joke these days bar Audioslave and QOTSA. British rock is getting on my nerves. Indie is the same old shit over and over and it needs to end right now.

With the greatest respect, it's funny cause it's twaddle. Zeppelin didn't have "hits" - they released about 2 singles in the US and none at all in the UK when they were together. They were an album band (kind of like Pink Floyd) and were, largely by word of mouth, the biggest band in the world at a time when the comparitively highly-publicised Rolling Stones were huge themselves. Their influence in music is enormous, their album sales second only to the Beatles, they had who many consider the greatest rock drummer ever, and a guitarist who is up there with Hendrix. They rocked ridiculous amounts, especially when they turned it on live.

Load of garbage, that's priceless...:D

I do agree with you about the current state of rock music though - things are very dry indeed these days.

Im not talking about how much they sold or how much they influenced music. I dont doubt that. But like I said I think they are overrated, their music to me isnt that special and certainly not as superb as the hype would let you believe.

I think 90% of their music is rubbish. Maybe 6 good songs one of which is the most overrated, overplayed song in history.

Rolling Stones id even put above Zep. Depends what your into.
