I'm disturbed at how often Dutch people say "is goed". I used to live with this really annoying person who spoke every language badly and when she used to say it constantly I would think to myself "I'm sure that's awful Dutch".

Ehm Martin, whats your point exacly? You dont like the sound of Goed or how we prenounce it?

Forgive me, but to my ears it sounds really stupid to say "is goed" when you're saying "okay then" or "bye then". I know that comes from the perspective of someone who doesn't speak Dutch, so it doesn't mean much. Just sounds lame though, sounds very unsophisticated. As if it's a grammar error almost.

"Dat kan" can be correct though. If you use it to say "okay" it isn't obviously. The use of dat kan is often in a somewhat grey area. In fact a lot of people here say it to insinuate "I really don't know". Meh, I think the Dutch are okay when it comes to speaking Dutch foreigners can understand. In Antwerp we are much much worse.

This is where we do better than most Dutch people though :D. We're generally a bit better at speaking other languages. Probably because we start learning French at a young age.

    Disagree mate

Dutch people speak a decent english unlike the french or german imo. Basicly everyone speaks some english, yes they do have an accent but hey it's not their first language. You can't say dutch people speak disturbing english if you know how horrible the germans speak it IMO

By comparsion, yes. But this is not a flattering argument. It's like saying "you can't say Juve is bad because Siena is worse".

I don't think Dutch people are generally any good at foreign languages, though people usually seem to think they are. Same goes for Scandinavians, people assume they're all pretty decent at English.

I pretty much agree with Martin though, the others are simply even worse, so we 'look good'.

Few exceptions aside, a lot of people I know sound like complete tools when speaking English.
