Ronaldo didn’t win a single trophy in 2013. He lost the league to Barca (by a mile), he lost the Copa final to Atletico, and he got kicked out of the UCL by an inferior Dortmund side. Meanwhile Ribery won the treble that year. Guess who won the Ballon D’Or though?

This award has never been fair, unfortunately. The more marketable player will always win the award. Messi is a much bigger name than Van Dijk. Ronaldo is a sex symbol while Ribery has the misfortune of looking like Ribery.

The only exception is 2018, but I truly believe that Ronaldo would have won the Ballon D’Or that year if it wasn’t for the rape case. If you remember, the rape accusations came out around the time when the voting began, which no doubt had an impact.
Ronaldo in 2013 and Messi in 2010 were both undeserved to me, but thats in the past. Also those were FIFAs awards, FF was supposed to be fairer in their votings. They tried too hard with Modric and now they went back to the flashiest name again. Real disapointment

In my opinion Ronaldo should be on 6 (or maybe even 7) Ballon D’ors. He definitely should have won last year and arguably should have won it in 2007 over Kaka who was only good in a few CL KO games. Ronaldo was much better than him throughout that calendar year and for the majority of the 06/07 season that it takes into account.

Looking at the voting results, it appears that Liverpool’s players took too many points away from each other. 4 of the top 7 players are from Liverpool. In such a scenario, it’s hard to compete against a player who is clearly the star of his team.

In Ronaldo thread people want him benched and sold. In this thread, they are having a meltdown bc he rightfully didn't win the balon d'or as if he was a contender and as if winner was a surprise.

Most anticipated, titillating, suspenseful balon dor ever. Much interesting, wow.

People need to finally realize that this is not a season award but for the calendar year. If you talk about individual impact, Lewa outscored messi this year in all competitions, in same amount of games. He outscored him in NT games (despite most of messis goals being in friendlies and only one in competitive games, while all of Lewas were competitive), he outscored him in CL. He got kicked out of CL earlier, but then the "team" argument people bring up for messi comes back in his favor. Hes also won a domestic double while messi lost the domestic cup against a much inferior team. Still, it should have went to pool. The fact so many of them had a great year doesent mean none of them deserves it. Alisson remqins my pick, having in mind previous winner(s)
This guy thinks Lewandowski, consistent scorer who allways (for long time) disappears in big games for years, and a goalie, should get Balon D or.

Yikes.

The problem is that is never consistent. Ronaldo (Brazillian) won 2002 but he was literally injured throughout the entire season except for the World Cup. Cannavaro won 2006 for his display in the World Cup, yet Ronaldinho was clearly the better player, having just won the CL and league. Based on the important cup competitions, one would think that Kaka deserved 2007 because of his performance in the CL.

In any case,

Nedved should have won in 2003
Sneijder 2010
and Ronaldo 2018

So technically, it should be 6 - 5 to Ronaldo's favour.

LOL, well done Chiellini:

Chiellini: 'Ronaldo robbed of Ballon d'Or'

Giorgio Chiellini claims Juventus teammate Cristiano Ronaldo “was robbed of the Ballon d’Or last year, as Real Madrid wanted to stop him winning.”

The trophy went to Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric in 2018, while this evening the winner was Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo skipped the ceremony for two years running after learning he would not be holding the golden globe aloft.
Asked about the decisions, Chiellini made some remarkable comments on Sky Sport Italia.
“Ronaldo was really robbed of the Ballon d'Or last season, when Real Madrid decided to make sure he couldn't win it and that was really weird,” said the defender.
“This season, it was more balanced. With all due respect, Modric even in his best season of his career didn't deserve it. That was a signal from Real Madrid, as they wanted to stop Ronaldo winning it.
“He won the Champions League, but by that logic, (Liverpool defender Virgil) Van Dijk should've won it this year, or last year (Antoine) Griezmann, (Paul) Pogba or (Kylian) Mbappe for doing extraordinary things at the World Cup. Modric made no sense.”
Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or on five occasions, while Messi now has six.

Interesting and unusually inflammatory comments from him. Is he just hyping up Ronaldo? Or has our Chiello just dropped some open secrets about the UEFA deep state? @Hustini

Canna had a perfect season at club level as well; and Nedved did win in 2003. What rock have you been under? :D

Well sorry to disagree here
There are politics in it (though not all the time)
Ronaldo would have probably won last year should he stay at Real (despite that I think Modric deserved it)

Ronaldo the Brazilian won it though he wasnt that great
Cannavaro was simply amazing in 2006 both for club and country and deserved it.
Sneijder should indeed win it in 2010

As for this year - You cant compare numbers between a defender and a forward.. You look at overall impact and since Van Dijk signed for Liverpool they became amazingly better...
Van Dijk was the number one reason for their CL win and deserved to win

P.S I`d give it to Salah and Mane before Messi while Ronaldo did the same as Messi this past year + International football (won)

I know I’m not popular for saying this, but how the hell is Ronaldo in top3 based on the calendar year 2019?

Popularity contest nothing else

Since 2007 all the Ballon d'Ors went to LaLiga players; there's definitely some bias.
Hope the midget never wins an international trophy, that comfort-zone-loving boring-ass choker boy.
They have never given it to Cris unless he won CL, but this midget got it even when he hasn't won shit like 3 times simply because he's considered a divine football god or smth, there's many other ways to win games than his tiki-taka bullshit.
