I don't think Mancini is bad, look at other nations, the top coaches in football just don't want to work with national teams and see it as a half-retirement to take up a national team, Tavecchio convincing Conte for 2 years was really a masterstroke.

Who's the best coach working with a NT currently, Low, Deschamps, Sampaoli? Mancini fits right in, you can't say that Italy has a buffoon and the other have geniuses.

That's cuz the other coaches are wise and aware what a ginormous mess the Italian FA is. Changing the coach isn't gonna do shit, unless there is a complete overhauling of the system.

FIGC may be slow on the reforms, but the bigger problem is the way international footie is managed by FIFA. Current system is retarded, it messes with club footie massively with what, 6 short NT breaks per season? but still it does not give nearly enough time for NT coaches to build a cohesive unit, players get together, have 3-4 training sessions, play 2 qualifiers/friendlies and go back to the clubs, it really doesn't help anyone.

yeah, and I've always hated it international footie is just managed badly imo, with all the tournaments expanding in size and scattered international breaks it loses a lot of appeal, imo it'd be ideal if a club coach could also coach a national team if he wanted to and the international business would be separated from club season like it's in basketball or hockey f.e.

At least Mancini doesn't force systems onto squads but plays his best players always. How passive he is in tactics might finally be useful as he'll likely choose and play the best instead of forcing a system like Ventura or Conte.

I guess the moment he is announced its confirmed that Balotelli is back.

no matter how you put it, this team should be able to qualify to the EUROs, Mancini has enough resources to build a team out of this group, and replace the ageing stars with younger players in the process. goal should be to qualify for the Euro, but also to build a younger core for the 2022 world cup. hopefully he realizes this and doesent stick with the same 15-20 players until he crashes out in the QF in 2 years
