Obviously he's picked this Italy team as it is very workmanlike, but Carragher like so many others here misses the point about how the team handles the football as a group in areas of the field. I watched the Iceland game with my dad, who has watched nearly every game like a nerd, and he said it was shocking how much better the other leading teams are than England with how they manage the football. It's not just about having a nice touch, doing a bit of skill, good shot, cross field pass. Those are basics for an international footballer. You look at players like Rooney, Barkley, Sterling, Kane, Sturridge and all the others and yes, they can play football and generally have sound technique, but they stand out so much more in their club sides because those foreign players they play with know how to manipulate the ball in certain situations across the field.
