Fully agreed with him there.
Italy CT Antonio Conte says he spoke to Andrea Pirlo before opting not to call him for Euro 2016.

The New York City midfielder and his MLS colleague Sebastian Giovinco have both been left out of the squad for this summer’s tournament, almost certainly spelling the end of Pirlo’s international career.

“I heard from Andrea, I needed to hear from him and we sent people to the US,” Conte explained in a Press conference at Coverciano today.

“However, we’ve made other choices and you have to accept them and deal with the consequences. Nothing was left to chance.

“We evaluated him and Giovinco, it’s normal that if you choose to go and play there then you can pay the consequences in footballing terms.

“We evaluated them technically, we didn’t leave anything to chance. Anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong, we went everywhere to have clear and precise ideas.

“I picked the 30 who I think will give me the most guarantees.”

The Azzurri will face Scotland and Finland in warm-up friendlies, and Conte confirmed the choices were made to prepare for the opponents Italy will face at Euro 2016.

“We opted for Scotland because they’re very similar to Ireland, while Finland are more like Sweden.

“We chose them to see what kind of games await us.”
guess that's exactly what Beppe told Conte back then when he didn't sign iturbe.

Yep that was a pretty good side - but perhaps the most disasterous campaign given the potential. That had a prime Totti, Del Piero, Vieri, Inzaghi. Defence was amazing and so were the strikers. Only issue was that midfield was very average in that year. 2006 midfield was a lot better even if the strikers were worse.
That 02 world cup was rigged, fcking korea and ref moreno

Italy squad on paper probably one of the worst I have seen in recent times but Italy always does better as underdogs anyway

Even at times when Italy are considered underdogs they still have world class teams. In fact they were seen merely as outsiders in 2000, 2006 and 2012, but to me that was totally inexplicable especially with regards to 2000 and 2006. Even in 2012 Italy had a pretty good team.

Thats true, this honestly I think is probably the worst squad so far and it is highly unlikely they will make anything out of this tourney, but one can hope

Yep...we all know that it was that fucking ref that sent them out.
The infamous Moreno, later prosecuted for smuggling cocaine into the States. FIFA have always had wierd selection of referees for the biggest tournaments that would inevitably backfire.
