Yeah, I said before that Bernardeschi is maybe too similar in his role/position to allow Berardi to also go. Bernardeschi is that little bit more versatile as well. But tbh if Berardi was on the back of a great season he'd probably make the 30-man squad at the expense of Giovinco or SES, all of those guys can't go.

And as you hinted at, maybe he's still too much of a maverick, and he's not the level of someone like Cassano to be that tournament risk. If Berardi is the type to sit and grumble on the bench then he wouldn't take him, and I'm sure Conte knows everything about each player he has picked on a psychological level. That is a squad of "good little soldiers" who will pull in the same direction, even Insigne has bought into it for the sake of this tournament. He's the real wild card.

Conte selects his 30 man squad tomorrow. It'll have to be trimmed down to 23 before the start of the tournament. These are the 30 he'll pick IMO.

Goalkeepers: Buffon, Sirigu, Marchetti and Donnarumma.

Defenders: Chiellini, Barzagli, Bonucci, Astori, Rugani, De Sciglio, Darmian, Antonelli, De Silvestri, Florenzi.

Midfielders: Pirlo, De Rossi, Motta, Parolo, Montolivo, Giaccherini, Bonaventura, Jorginho.

Forwards: Pelle, Zaza, Eder, Giovinco, Candreva, Insigne, El Shaarawy, Bernardeschi.

If I've forgotten some or you agree or disagree, let me know.
Out of this list, the bolded ones should go imo

My exact choices too...although, as much as we like to laugh at him on here, I might try to squeeze Giovinco in there somewhere. Maybe at the expense of a midfielder. He has been onfire in the MLS lately. Yeah I know, the quality isnt anywhere near the best, but when you've got a player scoring almost every week - confidence levels and sharpness infront of goal will be high.

The average age of that selected squad is about 27.8. Coolest of cool stories.

Not sure about him as they already are Insigne and Shaarawy on the list and they all play the same positions. Im not sure how good either of them would be in the right as an alternative to Candreva. If one of those 2 got injured though id take Gio instead of trying to make a winger out of Eder

What do you think Conte will start with against Belgium?

i liked the 3-4-2-1 against Spain even though it got destroyed against Germany when he used sub players. i think thats the best formation to keep the Juve backline and take the best out of the best offensive players. going by the latest friendlies i think this is the most likely formation:

Buffon

Barzagli Bonucci Chiellini

Florenzi Parolo DDR/Motta Darmian

Candreva Pelle El Shaarawy

but you never know with Conte, he even called Pirlo now so who knows if he changes his preferred formation again

Double flanks, quick on the wings, steel in the center.

If he wants to win or draw instead of lose
he better not wins against Belgium

Fully and utterly agreed.

Only change I would make is Giovinco in. I think he is the best sub for Insigne. Perhaps take out Bonaventura and take Candreva down to midfield.
it seems to me Conte prefers El Shaarawy as a starter to Insigne. he didnt have a seasons like this behind him the last time Italy played a competitive game though

I'm guessing your list only missing one or two of the Sampdoria players Soriano, Ranocchia and De Silvestre.
I have De Silvestri :D

Actually the one CB I forgot (and who he'll probably take IMO) is Acerbi. Ranocchia or Astori for the other bidone CB role in the squad I guess.

I don't think he'll select Soriano or Milan's Bertolacci.

Belgium is absolutely dramatic against a well organised team that can defend well. So get double flanks and sit deep. rely on worldclass cb's to pick up what gets past the fullback.

belgium dont have a plan or playmaker. Have 2 cm's play agressive and they'll strugle to pass the ball

Exploit the uncohesive defence thats wide open for counters, as the fullbacks move up very high and arent covered

3-4-2-1 with the 2 going wide to trouble belgium's fullbacks would be the way to go. Like he used the forwards to press madrid's fullbacks

its in Italys best interest to finish 2nd, thats why beating Belgium shouldnt be an option. get draws vs Sweden and Belgium and win against Ireland. finish 2nd and kick Portugal, England and Spain out one after one before winning the final
