Holly $#@!, I have never seen such horrible names/players in an Italian lineup since I was born.
Its not that bad actually, the defense is great and there are few other good players like Florenzi, Candreva, Insigne. If Conte can make the team work without Marchisio-Verratti they can make it out of the groups and then everything is open.

Also, we need Buffon to win this, another title with the NT (the one hes missing) and then the CL with Juve, perfect way to walk away from football :touched:

Btw. Italy might have the easiest path if they finish 2nd.

2nd placed team of group E (Italy) would play winner of group F (Portugal probably) and then would face whoever wins the match between winner of group B (England probably) vs one of the 3rd placed teams. They would probably face Spain in semifinal as they would have an easy path too if they finish 1st in their group (vs one of the 3rd placed teams and then vs whoever wins between the runnerups of Frances and Germanys groups).

If they finish 2nd and most of the favorites finish 1st they would avoid both France and Germany before the final. So forza Belgium

It's going to be an absolute train wreck :D can't wait to watch their games now TBH. Should be fun in a bad way.
It is a big loss to not have Marchisio and Verratti. I wonder why Conte does not call up Allan for Italy? If I was coach I would probably have Allan as a starter.
Italy could put together a decent 3 man midfield even with the the losses. Their attack is the most worrying part of the team I feel.

Maybe instead of playing Florenzi as a fullback and allowing him to lead the midfield in Marchiso and Verratti's abscence would give the team the quality it needs.

Bonaventura--Florenzi--Allan would be a nice 3 man mid. for the attack if Conte leaves Insigne, Rossi and Balotelli behind I think Italy wont have much chance for goals tho.

I think Conte will call-up Pirlo and De Rossi in the current circumstances and i can't say that i wouldn't do the same - buffon, pirlo, de rossi, chiellini, barzagli, atleast few very experienced players that could help Italy to go to quater-finals

This has to be one of Italy's poorest international runs. They're bordering on being an irrelevant international team going by the last decade. Shocking exits in South Africa and Brazil. And their Euro while a bit more respectable, thanks to the Euro 12 run, but for a four time WC winning team, they can't go missing in the big tournaments. I think the generation coming through still needs a bit more time, but they will eventually come good, too bad Conte won't be around to instill that winning mentality though. Going into the tournament, I thought Italy would be a well drilled team unit, but with injuries to key men, that SF spot I had hoped for has all but gone down the drain. Hope for a QF spot and take it from there, but anything less than a top 8 and they're going to slip from the consciousness of the modern football fan as a top team.

Conte selects his 30 man squad tomorrow. It'll have to be trimmed down to 23 before the start of the tournament. These are the 30 he'll pick IMO.

Goalkeepers: Buffon, Sirigu, Marchetti and Donnarumma.

Defenders: Chiellini, Barzagli, Bonucci, Astori, Rugani, De Sciglio, Darmian, Antonelli, De Silvestri, Florenzi.

Midfielders: Pirlo, De Rossi, Motta, Parolo, Montolivo, Giaccherini, Bonaventura, Jorginho.

Forwards: Pelle, Zaza, Eder, Giovinco, Candreva, Insigne, El Shaarawy, Bernardeschi.

If I've forgotten some or you agree or disagree, let me know.

That's more to do with him having an abundance of similar SS/WF players of a similar level. There is also no space for Gabbiadini, and he is no less deserving than Eder, but Conte has his favourites.
