if you were Ventura, what formation and lineup would you go with for the upcoming playoffs? Would you call up players like Balotelli, Giovinco, Jorgihno, Berardi, Conti, Thiago Motta?

I would go with the following :

........................Belotti.Zaza
Bernardeschi..Veratti...Jorgihno...Motta...Florenzi
..........Chellini..Bonucci..Barzagli

Key reserves : Balotelli, Giovinco, Candreva, Parolo, Bonaventura, Marchisio (if recovered)

Let's see everyone's formations :nico:

The 2006 team was full of players I liked. Back then I sort of thought I was an Italy fan, now I realise I probably just really liked the players. Because I don't see the current players through the same lens, I don't really care how well or how poorly they do tbh.
True but those players were truly the golden generation, so it was pretty easy to like them. So much talent mixed with personality and the core was built mostly on Juve. Even if they weren't Juve players, you had to admire the likes of Pirlo and Nesta. The current generation is simply poor, painful to watch. So why would you torture yourself, especially if it isn't your own country?
Today's starters wouldn't even make it to the bench of the great one.

You're basically a fair-weather fan then

He has no idea, he speaks about all these wingers Bla bla bla but he is playing Italy's best player (currently) out of position. I'm talking about Insigne.
He is playing two midfielders that can't sustain that many attackers
lets face it the fact that ventura is not even prepared to play 4-3-3 or some variation of this shows how pre-historic he is. The thought of Verratti when fit being one of the midfield 2 frankly frightens me alone and a massive misuse of the player's strength.

I can't stand this guy, some part of me feels I hope Italy don't even make it to the world cup to save all embarrassment come the big stage and sack the stubborn fool and hopefully the puppet master tavecchio along with him

You guys are ridiculous.

Insigne - Belotti - x
Marchisio - De Rossi - Veratti
x - Chiellini - Bonucci - x
Buffon

3 obvious weak points (as of now), big deal. That's A LOT better than most. Conte was one penalty away from beating Germany with fucking Giaccherini and Pelle, it's pretty obvious it's the tactics and not the talent.

The key is qualification - no matter how pretty or dirty.

Team form is always very different once the tournament starts. New players emerge and favourites go out of form. No point even talking about suggested line-ups or formations right now.

Two more international games for our players. How do you even put Spain and I Italy in one group?
Because Italy isn't anymore what they used to be. So Spain and Italy in one group is like having Portugal and Switzerland together in a group or England and Slowakia.

At this moment I'd call up Zaza before Balotelli or Berardi, both need to have a very good season to get a ticket to Russia, it's not enough if they're just slightly better than the guys which fought for qualification and are already there. Giovinco has no chance, he hasn't been playing competitive footie for a while and Motta is past it.

Jorginho and Conti would be on my list though, Italy need that kind of talent in their positions.

I like this formation. I'd put Berna on RWF and two of Conti, MDS, Florenzi as FBs.

Jorginho should be called up. Dont give me that nationality bs. Ventura is playing Eder who is brazilian. So clearly that isnt an issue then. Jorginho would be good option to have considering De rossi age (35 at the world cup time) and the injury issues Verratti and Marchisio are having. Parolo hasnt put in good performances under Ventura. Gagliardini doesnt justify starts given his input so far.

Gagliardini and Parolo only started because 5 other midfielders got injured. Its normal in an injury crisis that the 7th choice CM doesn't justify starts.

If injuries allow it we will have a very good team for Russia. The problem will be if Ventura is good enough for them.

GK: Buffon, Donnarumma, Perin
CB: Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli, Rugani, Romagnoli
FB: Darmian, Spinazzola, Zappacosta, De Sciglio
CM: Marchisio, De Rossi, Verratti, Pellegrini, Parolo
FW: Insigne, Florenzi, El Shaarawy, Candreva, Bernardeschi
ST: Belotti, Immobile, Balotelli

If Ventura can't make a great team from those players (if fit) then its all on him. Conte did it with Pelle, Eder, Giaccherini, Parolo, etc. I would like to test a 4-3-3, but his 3-4-3 can actually look very good.

Insigne/El Shaarawy - Belotti/Immobile - Candreva/Bernardeschi

Spinazzola/Darmian - De Rossi/Marchisio - Verratti/Pellegrini - Florenzi/Zappacosta

Chiellini/Romagnoli - Bonucci - Rugani/Barzagli

Buffon/Donnarumma
