If you play him as a pure DM you effectively get a player who does nothing but hold the ball and pass it wide. He's bloody awful in that position IMO. If you play him more upfront or even simply in a more free role, you get a decent player. As an AM he's okay. Strong in the air too. His main problem is that I don't see him as dynamic enough for our midfield (which has been our strength for a while now).

We will use him a lot, but whether that's a good thing or not depends on how we use him.
He can't do what you say.His features are hold ball and pass laterally or ahead to the strikers, giving order to our game. He's the typical central midfielder. He is a Pirlo ,no a Pogba. Instead, i agree to you about the low dynamism of our midfielder, but we must say also that we have taked Pjanic that we can use him more forward and furthermore, we have recovered Asamoah and we have Lemina more expert than last year.

For the right price he'd be an okayish back-up player I guess.

Should've done better for sure, but oh well.
If we pay him a price that is within certain limits, i say that we have done a good coup.

I understand why you're saying that, but that's because you have never seen him play his true role. Witsel used to be an AM and was actually quite decent in that role. He was transformed by Zenit, but mostly the Belgian NT, to a DM.

If you play him in the same role Pirlo did, he's going to suck. Hard.

I don't seen him play before Zenit. I base my opinion on what i seen. However, if he comes, we have taken another ductile player and no doubt he can play well ahead the defensive line, letting Pjanic to approach to the goal.

Sure. But my point is, if you expect him to play DM like Pirlo, don't. Because those are not his qualities. He can be solid, but boring in that position.

I don't say that he's like Pirlo; Andrea is incomparable. In any way, his slowness doesn't allow him to play forward . He has the right physical force, he's quite technical and able to view the game for play ahead the defense. I'm sure that he can do better there than other positions.
