Don't know, I'm still into general relativity. Speaking of which, what the hell is it all about?
What is string theory about? From what I heard it's a somewhat optimistic and certainly heroic attempt at a unification theory. We still want that explanation about how all our physical laws are connected in some meaningful way.

What is general relativity as opposed to special? What does the special specialize in?

Well, Einstein stated that nothing can go faster than light, so that implies that there would be some kind of 'delay' before the gravitational force between two (distant) bodies works in, which of course contradicts Newton's gravity theory. Eventually he redefined gravity so that it is consistent with his first theory (now called special relativity), in a theory that is now known as general relativity. Basically he stated that gravity isn't a 'classical' force, but rather the effect of a curvature in the time-space continuum caused by the presence of mass.

Indeed.

When I bung all my wires and connections and mice and headphones in the carrier bag and they always come out tangled and intertwined, is that part of the string theory?
