First DUI here (UK, no claimant) will get you something like 6 months suspended license, probable community service/fine.

In Cyprus the police would probably get you on your way so they don't have to fill in paperwork.

Apparently he told the officers "handcuff me and you are going to shit on all of Chile"

Vidal: How would I be driving this shit, how could I be so stupid, don't you think?

Police: Yes you fucked up sir, you fucked up.

Vidal: What, I fucked up? Stop talking bullshit.

[...]

Vidal: Are you going to handcuff me?

Police: Don't make things harder than they are...

Vidal: You can handcuff me, but you'll fuck Chile...[/I]

Was this thread locked as an ironic jail joke?

Sorry, i had to..

But jokes aside this was poor in terms of professionalism on Vidal's part. He's been one of the players of the tournament, in his own home nation. They need him at his best to have a chance of winning and he is out getting drunk...come on man. He is lucky to be alive and able to continue his career. Crazy how quick life can change. Hopefully he learns from this shit and can keep up his good form, because he has been impressing me thus far in the tournament and looking like his "old self"

I wonder if Juve will take any action?

Glad he is out of jail and allowed to play for Chile. Hope he has a good lawyer. I think he realizes he messed up based on the tears and apology in the press conference. Anyway happy everyone involved was ok.

Why was this thread closed?

"Transport safety website Conaset.cl gives information on 'The Emilia Law' related to drinking driving in Chile, which should see Vidal receive a minimum of 541 days in prison as a result of his crime," reported Sport. "The law is a result of the country attempting to tackle the issue of driving while intoxicated with strict measures and punishments.
He wont be charged with that.
