That's right, you're 18 aren't you? :D
How can you be tanked for a week? :D A big night on the town only messes me up until about 1-2pm the next day. Chipotle gets me back on track because whatever is left in my system gets absorbed by that massive burrito. Pop an aspirin or two afterwards and I'm like new again. And I'm 33.

@Ocelot - don't listen to them they're doing it wrong. You have some time. :D

I read an interesting article the other day on how Austrians age faster and experience more rapid physical decline than any other First World Nation... Scary stuff. I'll try to find you the link, I've misplaced it, for reasons unknown quaquaquaqua... but I think there was one study by Puncher and Wattmann, and then a second study by Testew and Cunard.
:scared:

Fuck you guys make me scared of getting old
I'm 28 and my recovery is almost the same as it was at 18. These guys exaggerate. You have to work out more though. Take Ronaldo for example: obviously he recovers just fine, dude plays a game of football every 2, 3 days and this is at the top level.

Besides, people will stop dying in the next few decades anyway.

Alcohol slows muscle growth as it diminishes protein synthesis over time.

Alcohol can decrease the secretion of HGH by up to 70% therefore severely impairing muscle recovery. Same deal with the negative way it affects sleeping patterns.

Alcohol dehydrates your body which can lead to injury and exacerbates both of the above-mentioned.

Alcohol often creates a water imbalance which impairs ATP production which has negative effects on both energy and endurance.

Alcohol impairs the function of the hippocampus, the part of the brain dealing with memory creation.

Alcohol inhibits your body's ability to absorb vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

And so on.

No one is saying the occasional drink, as in a drink or two a week is particularly bad for you... And no one is saying that having a night out drinking once a month or so is terrible. But if you're having a couple drinks every night, or partying every weekend alcohol severely affects your physical performance.

Aside from this the example of C Ronaldo is a terrible one. He doesn't even drink alcohol. Maybe that explains why he can play so often and recover so well.

Yeah, but my point really wasn't that alcohol is okay for a professional football player.

The fitness culture is one of the sadest parts of modern society.
It's not. In fact as long as people are reasonable about it, it's a great part of modern society. People used to be weak and frail by the time of 60. Fitness culture helps prevent that.

That being said, fitness selfies are not cool. Ever.

I drink a bottle of wine + a couple beers over the course of a normal week. I certainly agree that alcohol in moderation is perfectly fine, and not that hard to recover from, in part because I'm not physically pushing my body to the same extent elite athletes are.

You're way too selective here. And people aren't reasonable about it.

This post is going to save me SO many time in explaining why i dont drink :D

I dont mind people drinking. If you like it, its your goddamn right. But please dont tell me that "its actually beneficial" cause its not. And i want to lift as much as i can, so i'm simply not drinking.

Ronaldo is one of those nature freaks. You'll also find grandma's aged 85 who eat 200g of fat each day, and have the cleanest arteries. They occur, but are rare.
Ronaldo sets the example in having a exceptionally gifted nature, and then does everyhting humanly possible to make most out of that, wich sets him so far apart.

It still has tremendous benefits.

The fitness culture is one of the sadest parts of modern society.
Depends. All the guys from the powerlifting core at my gym, are very dedicated with diet and training. But all of us are accepting towards people who choose to live differently. We dont mind that you like to booze, and we'd come along, but we'll drink a non alcoholic beverage.
We know quite our thing about nutrition, but we arent going to bore people, unless the topic comes up.
When people say "i should lift", we'll say 'should you ?', because we know to achieve something, you need to have that standard craving to work out.

The "body and fit", will often come at you and go like "train 5 days and eat clean as fuck or you waste your time". And then post 7 selfies per workout. Yeah, that kinda ruins fitness culture.

Then again, powerlifting and olympic lifting is "training in a gym". Fitness and bodybuilding is "working out in a fitness". So you are actually right, as you exclude strength sports, who tend to not be 100% anal about stuff.

Fitness is a stupid choice of word from my side. I meant gym.
