The big question is if Juve are willing to pay his price or if they will go for Poli instead, the much cheaper option.

not sure if Poli would be much cheaper, if we are talking buying 100% of his rights, with cash. Right now, Vidal would prob. cost you 12 mil, Poli 8-10 mil.

My guess is Juve may try to get both, as Poli is simply not ready for a key role at a team like Juve - even at Samp last year he rarely got a shot at a starting place, iirc. Juve would/should try to get their hands on Poli, while not skipping on a proven mid like Vidal (or someone else).

Also, if gazzetta is to be believed, there is a good chance, Juve is looking to buy half of Poli's rights in exchange of co-ownership with Samp for Giandonato, I think, and one other Juve youth player. This would bring Poli to Juve, while would not cost the team any 'real' money and the rest of the transfers could take place, as planned.

That would be the best thing to do, I think.

Acmilfan, take it easy with the smilies. You're taking away their significance.
I take it you missed the hidden part of the 'message' :D

Just as you mentioned, Poli can be brought without paying any money "now" making Marotta prefer him over Vidal which will be long forgotten. Vidal also mentioned us in a press conference which makes thing fail usually. Just for the sake of it another team can place a bid on him which makes Marotta back off for not willing to enter bidding wars. This is our story with Marotta, any player wanted by two or more clubs is not in our radar.

I think Marotta, and also Conte, are aware that Juve need at least one established midfielder - at least 2, if Melo is sold - with the right experience to walk into the team and make a difference ... and are also aware that Poli just isn't that, he is a talent to be groomed for the future but, most likely, will not be of much help to Juve right now - he is, after all, only a little more experienced than a youth player. Personally, I see Juve getting Poli to be a transfer of similar nature and purpose as Milan getting El Shaarawy - a player for the future, not much more than that, as far as the present goes.

The fact that Juve will most likely not have to pay for him, just makes him an even more appealing target but I doubt it would mean that he would be Juve's only reinforcement in midfield - that would be too huge a risk to take.

As for the established mid, Vidal is only one of several options Juve can go for, losing him would not mean that Juve would settle just with Poli ... and for all we know, Juve may already be an agreement with Bayer and Vidal.
Who that midfielder would be - Vidal or someone else - I don't know, and good players don't have to cost a fortune, but I expect that Juve are aware of the need to get such a player.

Marotta may not be a wizard of a GM but doubt he is that stupid and Conte is there too to help out the situation ... after all, his ass is on the line, as well.

well for a player who is in the last year of his contract i very much doubt he would exceed the 20 mill mark if that.
It was made clear that we will not even try raising a bid higher than any other team, if it not made through negotiations then we will not increase our offers, even if it were 1 €.

oh stop with that 1 € crap. as i understand it agnelli just wanted to make clear they want to make regular deals and not pay above the prices they think are appropriate for the players. i assume he was indirectly addressing atletico and villareal with that. their asking prices for aguero and rossi are quite elevated at this time.

I'm not sure this is true and if it is, it's not smart.

Lets say we are willing to go up to 15m eur for a player. It will be silly to offer 15m right away and we should try with a lower offer first, hoping that it might be accepted. So, we offer 11m eur. If another team offers 12m, it would be too silly not to offer more just so we won't enter a bidding war, when we are already willing to go up to 15m eur for the player.

I agree here it wasn't a firm number he was using it as an example as to say" were not over paying for a player whose value is inflated"

Not really, bidding wars means we will not place a bid higher than what another club has made, referring to if another club gets interested in one of our targets we will not do an auction with them. And it wasn't only Agnelli that said it, Marotta said it too.
