I'd hate it if we plan to use Vidal as Pirlo's bodyguard. I only watched the first half yesterday and Chile's coach gave him strictly defensive duties from what I could notice. He can do that job, but I'm not sure if he can do it much better or any better at all than some of the guys we already have.
He must be given more freedom if you want to get the best out of him.
Yes, correct. We'd want him as the box to box player. Those who keep pushing this whole Marchisio - Pirlo - Vidal midfield are not paying attention. Vidal would be the roaming midfielder. We need a stay at home DM in there.

Like Argentina's Banega (Pirlo) - Mascherano (DM) - Cambiasso (Vidal)? Yeah right.

Marchisio and Vidal would compensate each other. One goes up, another stays low on the pitch. They could easily mix some movements because they're similar players and can do many roles in the midfield.

I agree. Vidal and Marchisio are both good players to have in a team with Pirlo. You need players that will move, not sit beside Pirlo.
