what a strange strange player. Rarely seen such a capable and impressive dribbler, rarely seen such a bad passer. Every pass forward is the wrong idea and the wrong execution.
He really is Xavi or Iniesta level at retaining the ball, but sucks at everything else. It makes sense playing him close to our defenders who all happily switch between shorter and longer passes. I thought he did well overall in this type of game.

Makes some odd choices and lost Messi in the build up to a chance in the first half but did well overall.

Looked knackered after an hour of so though.

Yeah, he is certainly not without use.

It's funny though, If he had just decent or even ok passing he could be a great player.

If he was a young player that made 2M a year, I'd be praising him on his qualities - ball carrying, protection, composure.

But since he came from Barcelona and makes 6/8M a year, I have to focus on what he cannot do. He's simply soft. Almost a liability on defense. Very poor instincts/reflexes. Tentative with the ball. You don't learn toughness..

All in all, he is a decent to good squad player. But definitely not a perennial starter on a team like Juventus.

This makes him immensely overpaid. Paratici should look for opportunities in the next mercato, while the guy is still young and some teams may think he's all potential. He's a 30-35M player. Sell him, sign one at this price range but with appropriate salaries/potential.

I can't understand this xavi iniesta comparison two outstanding midfielder who were instrumental in Barcelona dominating the champions league too a limited midfielder who is good squad player but he is not good enough to start the game

Yes, that's exactly what I said in my post above. He's the next coming of Zidane, with better hair and no flaws.

He's fine. Not a difference maker yet in my eyes. He will not lose us matches though.

He makes 5m and we benefit from the new tax laws with him.

...He will not lose us matches though.
we'll see on the long run. he gave away a nasty assist vs benevento, and while he was dispossessed only once yesterday, it happened in a dangerous area near our box and iirc buffon had to make a save seconds later. his passing isn't anything to write home about though, and that's some worry since some wanted him to be a forward pass, through ball making machine.

but yeah, he was okay yesterday. his workrate is excellent, his tackling is certainly beyond expectations.

Well for me he is difference maker, u can see our team not shitting pants when pressed while he is playing as he can get this ball and make play.
He is indeed. Imagine any of our other midfielders in his position yesterday. Especially Bentancur has lost so many balls in dangerous positions this year, meanwhile Arthur did great under pressure.

Don't know how there are criticisms of him for last night's match.

He was the only midfielder who kept calm with the ball in front of our box and passed it cleanly. It was obvious at the end of the first half, when we were pinned back and everyone kept giving the ball away dangerously, that Arthur was the only reliable one to break the press. At that point Arthur had 90% pass accuracy and more passes than McKennie and Ramsey combined.

It's short passes but that's what you need to break from Barca's press when you are pinned back, unless you just play Simeone style and kick it far hoping for the best. Anytime our players found Arthur after winning the ball back I felt a little calmer.

He was also our player with the most tackles and committed no fouls (which in his area would be really dangerous). It's not like he is defensively poor.

Had we had any of our other mids in that role yesterday things could have gone a lot worse.
