Release clause?

I am not going to lie, I'm a huge fan of player types like Arthur. Short in stature with extreme ball control. He never panics and never loses the ball. Like Iniesta, Pirlo or Xavi. You could clearly see how often our players were looking for him as soon as Spezia put them under pressure.

Very underwhelming.

Caught ball watching for their goal and just doesn't seem to have the vision to spot a pass. There was one instance early in the second half Cuadrado started a run, Arthur didn't release it in time so Cuadrado stopped to avoid going offside, then he played it very late after that. I'm not sure if that is laziness, being too slow at spotting the pass or seeing it, looking down and not looking back up before playing the ball. Either way it was too slow.

He did misplace a few easy passes or made some bad passes that caused us to lose the ball so i don't think it's true to say he never loses the ball

Can't believe Tici thought that he and McNugget were adequate reinforcements to our midfield. It's really an underwhelming bunch we have

I saw him make more of an effort to play the ball between lines today. It was clearly an objective. I like how he’s almost impossible to dispossess. A guy like that has his value, especially in a three man mid.

He offers nothing in the defensive phase, I'd say even Pjanic offered more in defence than him. Because of that I really don't see how he can cut it as a regista in Italy but he sure loves showboating and will get a lot of fans based on YouTube compilation.

tbf, him not cutting it as a regista isn’t gonna be because he offers nothing defensively. See: Pirlo.

Yeah but his creative outlet is nowhere near Pirlo's. I accepted Pirlo's defensive flaws since he would create 7-8 great chances every match. Arthur doesn't really dictate the game like that. I'll keep my final judgement out, but so far Barca had the better off this deal.

Pjanic clearly was more of an established player when he arrived to Juve + he had already played in Serie A a couple of years for Roma, yet he needed half a season to settle in Juve. Last season Rabiot came out of his shelf only post lockdown while Ramsey mostly looked like an amateur. Give Arthur time, midfielders rarely dominate from first minutes like Vidal did.

Needed a season to settle in? Wasn't 16/17 his best season at Juve, or at least as good as 17/18?

His first half was horrible, had good assist numbers due to solid corner and free kick deliveries, but aside from that he was really bad until the Christmas break. We never played Pjanic as a mezzala or any type of advanced role after that.

For those who watched Barcelona, did he ever play closer to the goal?
Actually he did, they deployed him as a b2b in 3-man midfield of their classic 433. Those Xavi comparisons had to come from somewhere, you know. The thing is his output in terms of numbers was nothing to get excited about but IMO he could play this role here if Pirlo decided to go for a 3-man mid. Many will disagree I guess.

Surely, he's pretty shy when going forward but here it's even more visible as Pirlo deploys him way deeper.
