oh man you out of all people, ditka was far worse but we tolerated him. But seriously how was yeasterday Capello's fault? the only dubious Substitution was trez-Zalayeta; but he did ti only coz unlike trez zalayeta supports mid if need be. We played better than them up to the 40th minute. After that we started panicking and arse got more confident.
Substitutions are meant to change games around and assuming Capello is a tactical genius, if I put two and two together he utterly failed to meet the expectations yesterday. None of the players introduced had any notable impact on the game and to say nothing of scoring we actually conceded another goal in the second half; again I had no idea how the team intended to win the game and it reflects badly on Capello's pre-game preparation. Mutu's conversion to winger was painfully ineffective - needless to say another culmination of a tactical masterstroke from Capello. And as far as motivation goes the team came out for the second half no better than they ended the first and the defeatist mentality was plain for all to see; what happened to coming out with all guns blazing? Or was his half time pep talk for Zlatan's ears only? In any case Ibra was appalling and Mutu couldn't have done any worse in that position; and no, the physio wasn't the one who chose to play them where they did.

Send Zebina to Siberia, sell Zlatan, put Capello out of his misery and bring back LIPPI, MARESCA and MICOLLI. I was in tha stadium and i almost cried watching Zebina. Zlatan was horrible and I cant comment on Capello because i was raised with good principles and manners. Cant the board see what is happening?? Cant they see that we suck with Capello as our coach?? Before i crawl under my bed and day in agony and sorrow can someone please answer me what was wrong with Lippi and the board let him go?

Hi guys,

Good game last night (from my point of view).

Just a few things;

The Zebina sending off was very unlucky and I don't believe that he had a terrible game as some of you have said. He was decent, not great by any means but performed a tough job admirably. I'd personally say that it was Camoranesi who let you down badly on the right side. He couldn't get near Reyes all night and instead of sheperding him down blind alleys chose to make rash challenges which could have seen him sent off earlier in the game.

When Camoranesi was sent off he was blowing kisses because practically the whole stadium was booing and chanting 'cheerio' as he walked.

Emerson and Trezeguet were invisible for most of the game. Zlatan looks like a man suffering, but you shouldn't get on his back so much. He's still a very good young player and will inevitably go through periods of poor form.

Most of the others were mostly very average.

Cannavaro and Zambotta oozed class but you could see that they struggled as the game went on. Fantastic players, and you could tell they weren't even on top of their games. I think Capello was right to play Zambrotta on the left; he practically controlled Hleb (who is very creative in the final third) and Eboue ( very pacey and direct) on his own for most of the game. I think if you had a weaker player there you would have had major problems.

I was quite disappointed by Juve if I'm honest.

Overall we were better but both teams performed below their true standards. On our side I was disappointed with Henry, Hleb and Reyes.

Anyway, see you next week and have some faith in your team.

Hey Juve fans, whats the news on DP and Nedved..the news over here in London is that DP is definetley out but Nedved should return despite only being about 80% fit..

Back to the match..what happened to Zambrotta..i love that player but what a performance by our young Eboue..didnt give him any joy down that left flank.

And as for Flamini on Camo..suberb, he was so frustrated that he resorted to kicking lumps out of our players! Great to see the Arsenal show the whole world just how good we are..and trust me..we can play much better!

Fabregas makes the 4-5-1 system tick
By Myles Palmer

CESC FABREGAS makes Arsenal's 4-5-1 system effective. His sharp runs linked it all together in Madrid and he did the same last night.

Juventus conceded the first goal to a midfield runner, Micoud, in the previous round, and did the same here as Fabregas scored a classy goal in 40 minutes.

This 2-0 victory is a total vindication of Arsene Wenger's methods and his risky strategy. His young team thrashed the Italian Champions and league leaders.

A glory night for Gooners, a fabulous night for Wenger, and a match where Capello got it completely wrong.

Arsene was bang on before the game when he said, "I think we can give them some problems they don't usually face."

All he has ever said, since 1996, is that he wants his team to improve from game to game. He played 4-5-1 in Madrid on February 2 and won 1-0 and on March 28 he played 4-5-1 against Juventus and won 2-0. In those six weeks we have seen a clear improvement from game to game.

A vibrant team effort, two world class goals, and a clean sheet made this Arsenal's finest performance in the Champions League.

The Professor's redcurrant heroes had more flair, more energy, more sparkle, more determination. The desire that pulsed through the Arsenal team was amazing. They outplayed the Italian champions TOTALLY for the whole game.

They outnumbered them five against two in 60% of the pitch and Lehmann did not have one shot to save to make in 90 minutes

Juventus have an average age of 30.They are the best old team in the Champions League, and they ARE champions, unlike Arsenal, but they never looked like winning at Highbury last night.

Arsene's kids ran the legs off them, as we expected. The visitors were visibly exhausted and demoralized by the end and Camoranesi and Zebina were sent off for two aggravated assaults on sub Robin van Persie and Henry.

Robert Pires had a big game, one of his biggest ever. If Pires plays like this to earn a new contract, give him more one-year contracts.Trezeguet is a plonker and I've always been glad he did not join Arsenal. Capello should have taken him off after half an hour and put on another midfielder, since Arsenal were annihilating Juve in that area.

Their 4-4-2 didn't work and left winger Mutu, like the lazy Trezeguet, never got a kick. Ibrahimovic could not escape from agile Toure or the pacy Eboue.

Incredibly, Capello did not take Mutu off until they were 2-0 down.

Vieira is still a potentially exciting player in a team that does not have an exciting style and does not require him to do the exciting things he did at Arsenal. He didn't make many tackles because he feared the yellow card that he eventually got for a cheap kick on Reyes in 71.

Juventus are the best old team in Italy but the efforts required to stay permanently on top of Serie A for two years have burned them out. And the methods they habitually employ did not translate to this game. The strikers were hopeless and Emerson never crossed the halfway line.

They were dull, rigid and negative, just as they were in that 0-0 against AC Milan a few weeks ago.

Yes, Juventus played a high-tempo game in the first 20 minutes, and tried to attack Flamini, with all their moves going down that flank. But Flamini crashed through tackle after tackle with commendable ferocity and Juventus could not sustain that tempo, as Blackburn or Bolton would have done.

It was an awesome team performance by Arsenal, with Toure, Fabregas, Eboue and Pires outstanding.

This team can dominate a game with sheer running power, as the Petit-Parlour-Overmars team did in 1998.But this team's passing style is more intricate, less dynamic, than eight years ago. They cannot win the ball early in the same way, but they have more variation, more angles.

In a way, Fabregas is the new Bergkamp, although he is smaller, younger and less powerful. I said recently that Cesc is not a natural goalscorer, but that might come. His strike last night looked natural enough. He knew exactly what he wanted to do. He is a strong little lad with great vision. He has dainty feet and chunky thighs and can operate in small spaces and see everything

THE SECOND LEG is next Wednesday, April 5th.

Will Juventus be that bad again? Probably not, but they will be without the suspended Vieira, Zebina and Camoranesi and the injured Del Piero.

Juventus need three goals and that will not happen. Plus, you have to fancy Arsenal to score over there. If beating Real Madrid gives players belief, what does beating Real Madrid and Juventus give them?

SERIE A needs to make a comeback tonight. Could athletic young Lyon beat old AC Milan 2-0?

No, because Kaka and Shevchenko are far superior to Trezeguet and Ibrahimovic. That game could be 3-2 either way. I've been looking forward to it for weeks. Lyon will miss Juninho's class and goal-threat.

Inter are favourites tonight but could be surprised by Villareal. Adriano is off form while Riquelme is hot. With the tiny Sebastian Viera in the Villareal goal, you have to fancy Inter at set-pieces. Recoba is back on form as well.

The Inter players will be surprised that Juventus went down 2-0 at Arsenal. If they win they play Arsenal in the semi.

I noticed a lot of things in the CL match. One is: (which has been bothering me ever since) WHY DID CAPELLO CHANGE MUTU FROM AN ATTACKER TO A MIDFIELDER!!!! TWO is: Arsenal never really 'dominated' they never really had THAT many chances eather. It's just that we were lacking firepower and DP magic.. Arsenal had A LOT of bad passing in the first(and second) half. I also thought we should have sticked to getting balls to Mutu/Camo to whip it in for a header.... Speaking about camo.... i never really liked that guy.... He's too hot headed... just like Ibra.... Ibra started the season well but is getting worse and worse... Cappelo has been giving him too many chances actually and he never really does too well. I don't wanna critisise him too much since i always liked him but let's take Trezegol for an example.... HE PUTS HIS WHOLE LIFE INTO HIS PLAY (MOSTLY) AND ONCE IN A WHILE HE SCORES..... Look nobody expects you to play every game perfectly... But at least influence the game in a good way.... it doesn't look as if Ibra is even trying.... when was the last time he scored?
Hope yall agree... Peace out.... Forza Juve

one thing i cant understand is yeah vieira was distinctly average after a decent start but watch the two goals agains.

first one good tackle by pires robs vieira who should have got back to his feet and made an effort instead of sitting on his ass.

as arsenal push forward emerson is following fabregas gets to 20 yards out from goal emerson lets fabregas go and gets sucked to the ball, the ball is slipped through to a free fabregas which thuram does his best to block it unluckily goes through his legs and leaves gigi unsighted.

second goal fabregas is looking dangerous through on goal, off the ball emerson is following henry closely gets to 20 yard out emerson stops running back henry goes into the box unmarked received the ball and scores.

two brutal basic mistakes from emerson.

secondly zambro was solid defecively but he really irrriated me by constantly checking back onto his right foot when in good positions to supply crosses into trez esp when zambro has a quality left foot.

camo deserved to go totally foolish but reyes should have been booked for the worst tackle of the match on emerson.

also kolo toure was superb

Why many of you speaking as if it was Vieira's fault that you lost? Surely he didn't have the best of the games, but it doesn't mean that now he should be offloaded immediately.

And has DP any chances of recovering? And would Capello play him as a starter?

Well that's good news for us, I think he has been in terrific form this season, especially considering he has had limited time on the pitch
