I think, personally, that the whole notion of 'outplaying' your opponent means very little.

Obviously, sometimes a freakish game does happen with bad reff calls, incorrect goals being given and one team having 10x the shots.

But generally, if a team sits back and defends well but also causes a major attacking threat, then they had a damn fine game.

You just want to get the job done ie win ....my point is without playing well you can win a few games but not the entire championship.The reason im harping about possession is because its unusual for us to go away and have so much of it , usually wedont we sit back , this time we actually controlled the game well and yet you are harping about a poor performance based on the just the score line.
We just dint take our chances , if we would have suddenly all the possession and shots on target would make sense . No one is using possession to brag , possession is to see who had more of the ball who controlled the game , we did but we were not effective in scoring ., that being the only thing negative .

I just want win , i don't care how. With our without possession and secondly I never harped about the poor performance based on the score line because I believe its a useless result until the second leg is done.
We can score a goal and defend solidly and nobody cares about the possession in the first leg.

Anyway leaving my case, its obvious you value possession while I value the result more.

My god I thought it was only the British media that were still pulling that crap. Every time Juve are on Sky/ITV they mention how lucky we were against the mighty Celtic after narrowly scraping past them 5-0 on aggregate

Funny how when Juve dont create much chances and grinds out a win as we have done this season with incredible consistency people whine how we play pussy football and thrash Conte while Conte fans point at the results as the most important thing. Now after a scenario that is the opposite to what usually happens (we played good attacking football and took control of the game and yet didnt get the result the performance merits), Conte haters now claim that the result is all that matters while Conte fans are pointing towards the quality of the performance. Conte lovers will be conte lovers and conte haters will be conte haters.

The 'luck' excuse does not sit with me.

It's just a way for people to pretend we're better than we actually are and shifting the blame onto some 'magical' force. When in reality it's quite clear there were legit reasons for our failures. I.E Bonucci being awful at his job and an overly conservative approach.

Do people think it's acceptable or even sensible to try impossible corners to prevent being countered, yet push the defenders up anyway which exposes us anyway. Not to mention at 1-0 down, it's quite pathetic to view a corner as a time to stop the opposition scoring rather than a chance to pull a goal back. Never seen anything like that.

It's terribly amusing. We're talking about a two-leg tie, and we have an away goal, and are only done by a goal going home for the return leg... Are we in an amazing position? No. But we're sure as shid not in a terrible one. If we win at home, there's a good chance we go through. I'd take those odds a vast majority of the time.

A penalty. Sorry, if that was a penalty, then we should have had at least two. Cacares stood there, did not move and their player ran straight into him, and dove, as he saw his touch had been too heavy, and he wasn't going to get to the ball. He made no attempt to try to run around Cacares, he ran straight at him to try to initiate contact himself. That's never a penalty, not domestically, not in Europe. Nowhere. He even stuck his tongue out to the camera as he was getting up. If anything, he should have received a yellow for diving. Your illogical hate is ridiculous.

And all of you Conte Haters have been going on about "how lucky" we were versus Celtic for a year. Don't be ridiculous. Luck goes both ways. Celtic, however created almost no clearcut chances over the course of two legs despite us ceding possession. Whereas Marchisio should have scored last night, and Tevez and Vucinic both wasted fantastic chances. Pogba's header as well was the exact same header as Buffon let in, only their goalie reacted quicker and made the save.

Anyways. Luck is a silly excuse. We shouldn't use it. I agree. We got beaten. However, the reverse is also true. Don't discredit our UCL run to the final 8 last year, by saying we were lucky. That's absurd. We were quite good last year in Europe and had the results to show it.

Personally I was a lot more nervous after Mario fkn Gomez sunk one past us at home, now that 2nd leg really was tipped in their balance.

I doubt we'll keep a clean sheet but I also doubt Benfica can stop us from scoring less than two goals. Plus with Vucinic out and Llorente in we'll be playing with 11 men.

Lol man, i think no one who knows how eurocups work, can be mad at the resutlt. Yeh we could have tied the game.. but that goal give us a lot of hope. This is the ONLY excuse that Conte has in his favor and i have to agree with this. But he also needs to man up and DEMAND to the board certain players!. BUT, even then, he could have tried to mix things up a little te whole season with the players we have and he have done nothing about it. Just using 352 EVERYTIME,

this i sincerely have serius doubts he will go into next season and try a myriad of options, because, no matter what we get in the summer... this dude in gonna 352 every player he gets.... at the very least meanwhile Pirlo and Bonutard are here.

After almost 24h passed and I am a little calmer I gotta say we didn't play that bad, I expected a lot worse but that's maybe because people on here made me think Benfica were Bayern Munich.

I expect us to advance though, no bonuccin around.

We really didn't. We were at least on par with them and after hearing constantly about their pace I was satisfied with the way we managed to cope with them. Mind you Benfica is a good team.

One thing I took from the game is how much better we could be if we had a similar counter attacking threat to Benfica, it would benefit us massively.
