The 'luck' excuse does not sit with me.

It's just a way for people to pretend we're better than we actually are and shifting the blame onto some 'magical' force. When in reality it's quite clear there were legit reasons for our failures. I.E Bonucci being awful at his job and an overly conservative approach.

Do people think it's acceptable or even sensible to try impossible corners to prevent being countered, yet push the defenders up anyway which exposes us anyway. Not to mention at 1-0 down, it's quite pathetic to view a corner as a time to stop the opposition scoring rather than a chance to pull a goal back. Never seen anything like that.
Exactly.

Shots on target mean nothing. We had our chances yesterday where we forced saves from their goalkeeper but their biggest chances were shots off target. Remember that huge miss from Sulejmani in the first half and that miss from (i believe) Markovic near the end. Also people start using the 'luck' excuse, basically we lacked luck in 5 of our 6 games in the CL, and now again we were unlucky.. I don't believe it's coincidence. After a night of sleep i still feel disappointed in our result where i believe we should have done much more and could have actually put this tie to bed. Besides not playing with their best 11 they also were quit bad yesterday. Although it's going to be difficult but i believe we have everything what it takes to win next week and qualify for the final.

again point out to me how we were out played? but hey if you don't want to thats fine, just don't call me out our stats were superior to benfica's in every sense. our passing success rate was even better than benfica's, half the time they couldn't even work the flanks without playing it out of bounds

yeah we were so outplayed.... http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/819742/Live/Europe-UEFA-Europa-League-2013-2014-Benfica-Juventus

being out played is different to actually losing. I honestly don't believe we were outplayed and neither did we deserve to lose
Seems like you got dat Barca logic der, badass.

Neither team outplayed the other, sure our stats were superior but I don't need to tell people here that stats mean nothing. It's not like we bombarded their goal.

If it wasn't for some bad finishing, we could've grabbed a 2nd goal. If it wasn't for Benfica wasting great counter attacking opportunities with bad passes, they would have scored a 3rd.

So that match was quite even, we controlled large portions of it yet Benfica looked dangerous on the counter and could've scored more themselves.

At the end of the day our attack is too slow, too predictable and too lethargic to make a real impression in Europe. You simply can not hang with the very best teams if you can't control the game OR counter attack. Getting wins without doing either of those two things will only really happen with good fortune.

In fact, if you're being outplayed and you can't counter (I.E your typical small serie A side against us) the only way to realistically get goals is from set pieces. And considering we're the only team in the world who view our OWN corners as a defensive problem, we're screwed until we bring in some pacey and direct players.

Typical CdS headline after the loss last night.

Conte wants Man Utd move

 :lol2:
Thing is, I know he wants the move sooner or later. He has talked about it. When even your club legend coach thinks the grass is greener on the other side, how the hell can you keep your quality talent around?

Your talking like a roma fan who because they defeated us in coppa italia said they are as good as us.That is a small team mentality , arsenal said the same when they defeated bayern munich at home last season.
Yes winning is the only thing that counts , we played to win the stats show it , but we lost so what ?. loosing doesnt make you a looser ,its a loosers mentality to think that if beat a team with 2 goals with 2 shots on the night your the better team .
10 years down the road whoever saw that final would say bayern lost it and not chelsea won it , and that is the whole reason di matteo was not 100% for the chelsea job even after winning it. It was under pressure that he was given a chance .
Its not black n white its not so in any sport as a fan you can be subjective , but if you look at it objectively you will see there a million times where people/teams have won undeservingly.
My point is it doesn't matter how we play if we get the job done. And end of the day , its the results. You are harping on possession as if it matters, but it doesn't. And I never mentioned loosing makes us a loser, i said no one remembers the losing team. I rather win ugly than losing beautifully. My argument is on possession is a useless thing to brag on. I'm not talking about mentality here. Not sure why you talking about Roma or Arsenal.

You just want to get the job done ie win ....my point is without playing well you can win a few games but not the entire championship. The reason im harping about possession is because its unusual for us to go away and have so much of it , usually wedont we sit back , this time we actually controlled the game well and yet you are harping about a poor performance based on the just the score line.
We just dint take our chances , if we would have suddenly all the possession and shots on target would make sense . No one is using possession to brag , possession is to see who had more of the ball who controlled the game , we did but we were not effective in scoring ., that being the only thing negative .

Llorente was the only logical choice.

He could have stayed too. Better tired Tevez than that useless hack.
tevez was coming off an injury wasnt even sure to play , yet played 75 odd mins, its a 2 leg tie....1-1 away result would have been good.

no it's a simple logic, winning the game doesn't necessarily mean you out played them, in the sense of smashing your opponents by a heavy scoreline i can understand that, but losing 2-1 in a game which Juve dominated possession, passing accuracy, tackling, shots on goal?? I hardly call that being outplayed. not even close.

Sounds like Barca logic to me, bro. The team with more possession didn't win.
so if we were to sit back and defend for 80 mins only to hit one counter attack and score the winner you would classify that as outplaying the opponent? really if that happened half this forum would go into meltdown as to how we played pussy football

With barca teams sit deep giving them possession , thats not what happens with us and dint happen last night , we earned the possession by playing well ie controlling the game after the 10-15 mins.

I think, personally, that the whole notion of 'outplaying' your opponent means very little.

Obviously, sometimes a freakish game does happen with bad reff calls, incorrect goals being given and one team having 10x the shots.

But generally, if a team sits back and defends well but also causes a major attacking threat, then they had a damn fine game.
