If you look at arsenal, and see that x years ago, they had a massive team, and then sold them all as the seasons went on, going from "invincible arsenal" to the rubbish it is now.
Sorry, but its not like wenger is like "oh i'll take all these millions and not spend it". If he had the choise, he would have reinvested

Wenger has always said he has had the money to buy but he never has till he signed ozil.....lack of ambition is why the players left . But zach interestingly he is the highest paid member of the team including players and also arsenal charge the most for season tickets in epl.
The reason i mentioned wenger is because conte has failed in europe according to some here where as according to some arsenal fans wenger has failed in the league , so just was wondering what would be the middle ground for which its acceptable to the fans of our team.

For me Conte didnt fail in europe. He did fine the first year, and not so good the second. The third year, next year, is going to be the benchmark.
He can partially redeem himself for this year if he salvages the europaleague. And it would do wonders for the team to get a bunch of european games under the belt.
All conte needs to do, is to have our players motivated as fuck, and in a good shape at the start of the CL. That we dont underestimate the opponent and be concentrated and dont make individual mistakes.
If we do that, we easely pass any group

I really wasnt expecting anything in the knockout stages as long as Juve gave it all against any opponent, even if that opponent would have been weaker than Juve hypothetically
but to not qualify from the group stages was a massive failure, considering how poor the other teams were. and that's on conte.

Isn't that what managers should be doing anyway? Besides it's all good shouting and getting the players geared up in the dressing room or however it's done, as that's how far it can go. But it's the players self motivation that they themselves should carry onto the pitch and keep it there. Not just relying on the Misters team talk alone.
Yeah i agree he needs to surely up his game for europe no doubt about that , needs to get quicker in reading the game and making changes .
But personally i feel a coach should not be judged on european basis because other than mourinho who has had quick success in cl , none of the other top coaches in the world have that many cl trophies .
Now if i mention ferguson some will say im linking united but he is considered one of the greatest coaches by all and in e 26 years even he won the cl only 2 times. de matteo on the other hand in half a season won it with chelsea and yet he is now without a team.
I just feel that the main target for any club is always to win their domestic league first and keep improving in cl league.
Only real madrid can do the stupidity to sack a coach after winning the league ie del bosque just because he dint win the ucl and they wanted the la decima , its an example to see how they have struggled to find the right coach after him , ancelloti now looks the right man .
Maybe im wrong in thinking differently from some of the guys here.

Well said you are correct, but we should be a little patient and lenient with conte as he has done a great job thus far , but improvement is a must in cl . We have underachieved in cl no doubt for a squad like ours .

Lets settle this once and for all. The Pro-Conte and 3-5-2 crowd Vs the Anti-Conte and the 4-3-3 crowd. Each should lay down what would make them change their mind/admit they were wrong?
As part of the first crowd I agree with Zach and I think that Conte did good in the first CL season and poorly in the second CL season. He is doing good in the Europa so far but thats not the same as a CL semi-final. My bet is that we will do good in the CL next season using a 3-5-2 and an occasional 4-3-3. Quarter-finals is the minimum I expect unless we face a real power-horse in the last 16. Anything less than that I'd say that he failed in Europe.
On the other hand, if we do switch to a 4-3-3 permanently then I demand a vast improvement domestically and on a european scale if I am to say that the other camp was right.

Not counting any exceptional circumstances like an injury crisis, I think if we improved our depth significantly and added some unpredictability to our side, we'd be a good bet for consistent semi-final appearances
That being said, the draw is everything. Some fools judge clubs exclusively on how far through the K.O rounds they progressed. Whilst ignoring the fact that a club who gets eliminated by the eventual winners in the last 16 is not necessarily worse than the club that loses to the Winners in the final.

I'm not one of those people who expect 4-3-3 to magically solve anything for the sake of changing formation, it's just that the 3-5-2 we play (With Pirlo starting) doesn't allow us to play a CAM or any offensively capable Wide players. The end result is that our strikers can be isolated completely and our midfielders have to work over-time doing more tasks than they should have to.
Of course, changing formation and expecting significant improvement would be stupid if we didn't bring in the right personnel.

winning serie a means nothing anymore, to any top player, unless we show effort in the CL as well.
Liverpool winning the EPL is different because they actually strived and worked hard to win it, and at times it looked like as if they weren't even going to finish in the top 4, same could be said about Atheltico and them winning the league. Were as Juve were sitting comfortable at the top for some time, and it was inevitable.
With Prandelli now signing a new contract, it means we have no genuine replacement, so I guess we should keep him for another year
Not true. We have several top players, and it means a lot for them. It's obvious, for all to see.
