Ok, i want one of you guys to explain to me two things:

1. Why dont we take corners the way they are supposed to be taken? Why the short corners when you have incredible jumpers in your team like Bonucci, Chiellini, Llorente, Pogba....

2. Why are our players (except Quags and Pogba) not encouraged to take long shots? Whats the deal with those Barca-esque moves of going in the goal with the ball?
1. The philosophy is the same why a placed freekick is harder then a placed penalty. if you kick it immediatly, everyone knows exactly when the ball is comming in.
However, if you give it short, you force players out of the box, giving holes to run into. especially with the short players acting like its gonna be a layoff to the near penalty box.
Now, if you give it short, and then whip it in, you would have a less prepared defence, and can totally exploint possible gaps.
Or, you indeed lay it off.
However, its not that good for juve as the short option usually isnt a good crosser

2. they suck at it. Really. A bad long shot is the fastest way to give away possession, disrupting the game. however, if you got good long shot takers, players will block em off , creatng space, or they actually take shots, creating a goal or forcing a corner cause a good long shot taker should allways be on target

For example, chiellini dares to try em, or pirlo

They usually would balloon it so high, even a rugby goal wouldnt suffice

1. Don't know. I hate seeing short corners as the normal option. They need to be an occasional alternative to be at the most effective. Seems such a waste to me when - as you say - Juve have players in their team that are a major threat in the air.

2. I've no great problem with most players not shooting from long range. Today it was ridiculous how so many Juve players were turning down the chance to shoot from inside 20 yards. Juve don't usually try to walk the ball into the net the way they seemed to be trying to toady.

It seems to me that Conte, fully aware of Bonucci's weakness on 1on1s and Chiello's recent sh!tty form and also our overall very slow defense, sees us too vulnerable on the counters and therefore has decided to let go of having straight whipped-in corners, despite our aerial advantage.
It's just that other teams have realized this (Like against Livorno, when they put 2 players to mark Pirlo and the rceiver of the short pass- FCK coach noted that and did the same) and that's when we ridiculously run out of options. :D

Per the short corner discussion:

I can't stand them. I think its wasted possession and it gives the other team time to react and reorganize. Only thing I can think of is that it pulls another man out of the box to mark the extra man taking the short pass leaving less defenders in the penalty box.

I prefer the driven/well hit ball into the box where we have a good chance with our height and good headers or confusion in the box where we can capitalize.

Can't remember the last time we scored from a short corner? Have we? How many?

The best part is that the 3-5-2 has been working very well again ever since our defense regained focus and we stopped doing the silly errors that gifted goals to our opponents. Half of the 4-3-3 crowd ate their words

I don't know why ma observations differ so significantly from the rest of this forum, but I saw a lot of attempted long shots yesterday.

Of the top of my head, I remember 4 from vidal, 1 from Chiello, 2 from Marchisio, 1 from Pirlo, 1 from Quags, 2 from Pogba. Except for the one from Quags, they were all blocked/went really high.

Tevez also repeatedly tried to run along the outside of the penalty bix and curl in a ball, but just didn't find any space in the (excellently organised) Udinese defense, so he has to lay it off to someone behind him.

You don't have to take a short corner to do that.

Also, if you drag someone out with a short corner, it isn't going to be one of the opponent's better headers of the ball.

Better off with a nice bit of pre-planned movement as there is at 1:20 here:

Virtually every Aberdeen player moves to the near post - dragging their markers with them - in order to isolate Aberdeen's best header of the ball one on one against his marker at the back post.

We scored with a very similar move yesterday too.

How many defenders would fancy marking Llorente or Chiellini one on one at the back post like that if Juve pulled off a move to drag most defenders away to the near post?

Can't remember the last time we scored from a short corner? Have we? How many?
Did Llorente's goal against Napoli not come indirectly from a short corner?

Ball was worked to the edge of the box for someone to shoot and Tevez deflected into Llorente's path.

More luck than judgement in that goal, though.

These are the answers i was looking for...... Zach misunderstood me when i said "long-shots". Long-shots arent just screamers from 20-25 metres, long-shots could be those 15-meter ones. And against Udine, like you said, our players chickened out almost always. The one, and main example being that situation when Llorente could have take a 100% clear shot with his left foot but decided for some reason to dribble.

There were several other situations when even the other fans who i watched the game with were screaming "Shoot! Shoot! Just fucking take the shot.", so it is not just my personal opinion, other people saw what i saw too.

Regarding the corners, although what Zach said might be partially true, im more going with your opinion Red cause short corners imo are used when: 1. When the average height of your players is low (which is not the case with Juve) and 2. Or to take the oposition defence by surprise which Juve doesnt do cause every single corner they take is a short corner.
