Yeah, he's a midfielder with good attacking skills which doesn't necessarily mean he's creative--players like Gerrard, Boateng can play in that AM role well enough but aren't creative.

Anyway, I haven't seen much of Vidal yet; he just doesn't seem like that kind of player to me. Maybe he is.

Vidal might be best suited (for us) in the AM position but he is no typical attacking mid. Like I've been saying he is there to keep the ball in possession of our forwards as he displayed seconds before his goal by making tackles and laying off a quick pass to our quicker and more skillful attackers. It does help a hell of a lot that he knows how to make important passes, score goals and bring the ball forward on his own but his tackling is what's most important to the team.

:agree: if Pirlo gets injured we will still have him to move the ball forward.

Well I don't know much about how good he is at breaking down defenses but his long balls and spreading of possession were immaculate against Parma.

He's probably the best signing we could have made for Conte's system. A lot of fears are that playing such an attacking formation leaves us susceptible to counter attacks like we have been for the past 2-3 seasons. Vidal is there to stop those counter attacks and give it back to our play makers in Del Piero, Pirlo and Vucinic but he can also make the long range passes that Pirlo can to the forward runs of our wingers and CFs. I think he and Marchisio would make a fairly good partnership if Pirlo were to get injured.

Playing Vidal next to Pirlo might actually take away the best parts of his game. There's no doubt to me that he is best suited in a 3 man midfield slightly advanced of Pirlo not covering behind him.

It's a nice problem for Conte to have

I think he and Marchisio can work together, they'll give us something different that we won't get with Pirlo, but the absence of his quality will be felt because it's not like we have creative wingers either.

Besides, i don't think Conte is intending a guaranteed first 11 for half a season at least. For one, he needs everyone hungry and two, he'll want some tactical versatility once we run into hardships.

Golden opportunity for him though. Defensive reinforcements in Jan + big squad + young, quick group + multiple attacking options = best job in serieA post 2012.

Lets see if he will risk vidal in DL position, but anyway playing elia and krasic on the wings will be better than against parma. Lets take a clean sheet next time!

That's quite a good lineup, considering it leaves Elia on the bench for some serious pace that can come on towards the end of a game.

I figure seeing as Vucinic can play on the left and right and i've even seen him play as a CF for roma so he could play either of those 3 positions and Elia could come in (or start) on the left, finally giving us some unpredictability and flexibility up front

a bit off topic but do you think Del Neri would of got fired if we made champions league? Obviously its early but we can see the type of football Conte wants to play and what type of players he wants. Obviously with winning titles and consistent CL play the players available for purchase will only get better. So seeing how we played are first game with an attacking style and ball moving football against a team we seem to suck balls against made me think shit Im so glad we didnt make CL because I do not think the board would of fired Del Neri because he would of reached the teams objective and we would still be playing that horrible kick and run football which who knows what players would of came in. Floaccari maybe lol. Anyways again I know its early but we can obviously see the changes Conte has already made and im happy with what I see. It finally looks like we have a solid base to work off of and I just (and I am literally) pray to god he can instil that winning, confidence and strong mentality we need to not make stupid costly mistakes that we did last season and win those games against the Parmas, Chievos, Sienas and especially those fucks from Palermo and Napoli.
